Oh here it is! I'm going to post the link to this thread in the EA waiting thread so that others can find it more easily.
I got confirmation that they have my seat deposit and I've been issued a GW ID #, not that I know what to do with it at this point.

So that 3.0 requirement - it's for spring semester, correct? Someone in the waiting thread had suggested it was cumulative for the year. When I look at the wording in the e-mail from admissions, I can see how it could be ambiguous:

"As you are aware, your enrollment is contingent upon your successfully completing the spring semester with a cumulative grade point average of B or higher. As soon as your spring 2012 grades have been posted, you must submit an official law school transcript directly to our office."

I take it to mean that your grades for spring classes only must average out to a B. But if it's for the year, that would take the pressure off in case I get a B- average for my spring classes. I don't expect that I will, but who knows.

I'm also curious about this as well. I'm hoping that it should not be an issue either ways, but I'm not sure. I'd say the best bet is to email the admissions office, especially if your school has a remarkably low curve.

Also, I've heard it said that GW can feel quite cramped with more students than space; I was wondering if any current or former students would care to weigh in on just how packed it feels studying in the library or around campus.

Do you mind calling the office and asking them for a clarification? I have called them a million times for other things. When I first read the acceptance letter I read it as a cumulative thing but then read it again and saw it as for just the spring semester. This is kind of screwed up if you think about it. Imagine you got into GW with a 4.0 and someone else gets in with a 3.5 in their first semester. That is why I am not sure which way it truly is.

I'm fairly sure that you have to have above a 3.0 in your spring semester (i.e. disregard the first semester -- if you get below a 3.0 this semester, GTFO).

I'm trying not to think about the pressure of maintaining a 3.0. Based on my performance last semester, it should not be a problem, but it's like when someone says "Don't look down!" when you're high up, and then you look down and are freaking the fuck out.
Took my first final yesterday. I think I did OK. I didn't feel like I fucked up or that I aced it, and to save my sanity I avoided talking to my classmates about the specifics. I did have problems electronically submitting it, and though it supposedly made it through with the electronic receipt and all, I hope it's all there. Exam software + law school wifi = the worst.
One more final and a paper to go - good luck to all of us!

Same boat. I mean 3.0 is just slightly below median here (3.05) so I feel a little better, but still the fact that I've dropped $1000 and have my hopes up makes me stress. I mean, I feel pretty good so far on my exams so I'm really hoping I do even better than last semester but there's still that very real fear that last semester was only a fluke.

One quick post and then I'm out: would you ladies and gents mind posting your school rank and 1st semester gpa?
Congrats and good luck!

I transferred to a different school last transfer cycle, but I wanted to chime in and say 1) that sucks that they have a GPA cut-off since schools curve on different scales. At some, a 3.0 would be relatively high. 2) Every law transcript I've looked at has 1) semester GPA and 2) cumulative GPA.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's a cumulative with Spring and Fall both.

Good luck keeping your grades up guys! Good luck during finals.

Ooh, that's a nice little median bump. Mine is at 3.0, exactly. Also, there's a lot more disparity between my course credits - two five-credit ones and two three-credit ones. So, a B- in one course can't necessarily be evened out by a B+ in another. I just have to keep reminding myself that I didn't dip below a B+ in any class last semester and it's not a fluke. IT'S NOT A FLUKE, DO YOU HEAR ME? *sobs*

I'm assuming that because it is finals, you are reading way too far into the letter so as to tear it up piece by piece to make sure you get all your points...don't do that...it's only a letter! haha

Oh, hey, I remember you from the NYLS thread. I'm glad you were able to transfer out - how has the difference been?

I mean, I probably am overanalyzing, but they have worded it several different ways, so it's confusing as hell. This is what the website says: "Second semester grades are not needed to apply through Early Action, though admission is contingent upon maintaining a B average for the remaining first-year courses."

So, I have no idea why the e-mail mentioned a cumulative GPA. Anyway, falling below median at my school would be a big fail on my part, so I can see their point.

I have looked over the emails from the GW admissions office and I am confident that it says 3.0 average over the year, but does anyone mind calling the office tomorrow to make all our lives more at ease? Unless someone already has. Cumulative every time I have ever seen the word means overall gpa for all semesters/years etc.

Interesting. That is what it sounds like to me too. Has anyone called admissions?

I may be going here as a transfer. In EA, but who knows. Middle of finals so I will not probably post at all.

Need some advice. Is it worth doing the write on competition at my old school. I am 100% sure that I am transfering to some school. Not sure if GWU yet, but if I get in no where else I would go. But I really really do not want to write on twice.

Any thoughts?

Do it. Fact is that if you make law review at your old school, you still get to put it on your resume and it can help during OCI. On the resume, you could say "invited to law review" or something of that sort. Tons of transfers did it at BU. Good luck!

Speaking of write on, does anyone know when the transfer write on occurs?

I can't get into the student portal, but I just found on the GWLR site that the competition is in "late august."
