Admission Advice greatly needed--Addendum on Summer Job
Hi everyone,
I recently applied to USC, Loyola, and Southwestern as a transfer student from a law school in Chicago and wrote my entire personal statement about wanting to become an entertainment attorney.
Recently, I was hired at a Public Defenders Office in Southern Cali for a summer internship and was even given only 1 of 3 paid fellowships.
I have decided to take the position because job searching in Cali from Chicago is extremely difficult and wanted to know how it would look if I sent an Addendum informing these schools of the recent honor. Will it look bad if I talk about a crim law position when my entire personal statement was devoted to my interests in entertainment law?
Thank you TLSers

Celebrities need defense attorneys too.
But seriously, I'm not sure I understand the problem. Will it look bad that you didn't secure an "entertainment law" position as a 1L? No, it won't look bad.

Agreed. Also, I doubt it will make a difference one way or another in your admissions chances.concurrent fork wrote:Celebrities need defense attorneys too.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!
I guess my Q is should I even let them know? Will it help or hurt? I figured having a job lined up for summer, esp one which will probably be available to me after grad (family connections), can only make my application stronger, but will the fact that it doesn't relate to anything i wrote my personal statement on make me look bad

It can only help, IMO. Law schools want to accept students that are employable. Showing that your 1L summer is set in stone is the first way to demonstrate you are hirable.rgucsb wrote:Thanks for the feedback everyone!
