I corresponded with a current 2L, who had the following experience: During his admissions cycle is LSAT/GPA wasn't good enough to get into a top 75 school. He ended up enrolling in fourth-tier school where his admissions numbers were at about the 75th percentile. After his first year his grades were in the 60th percentile of the class. He did a volunteer summer internship after his 1L year. At the same time he applied to transfer to eight schools. Seven schools, ranked between the mid-30s and the mid-70s, accepted him. One school (don't know what rank) rejected his transfer application. He is very confident that none of the schools that accepted his transfer would have considered accepting him originally. But now his LSAT and GPA aren't a problem for them.

You also claim that you were accepted as a transfer to Columbia, NYU, and Mich from a TTT where your 1L grades were around the 20% cutoff:

Even if your stories are true, they are useless to prospective transfers since you give no explanation for these extreme outliers.

Just to clarify - Paul Campos is a law professor who is active in reforming the legal profession. He gets correspondance from students. Both of the examples in the above were from what students told him. Campos was not himself a transfer student.

Fair enough. I appreciate any stats people are willing to share, but these two students were either fudging their numbers or there was some special circumstance we don't know about.
