Just curious as to what class ranking would be needed to transfer from a school ranked in the 45-55 range to UC Hastings (42)? My reason for wanting to transfer is due to personal family reasons, and at this point job prospects and tuition expenses are not a major concern.

Grades at my current school are just coming out. It appears that at this point I will end up around the median mark. How much improvement is needed to have a decent shot at a transfer to Hastings?

The usual ballpark range for lateral-ish transfers is given at around top 1/3. However, it is also widely reported that many schools give weight to ties and good reasons for transferring when evaluating lateral transfers. So just do your best, give it a shot, and emphasize your family reasons for transferring when the time comes.
