Georgetown (Part-Time) or Fordham (Full-Time)

I was planning on going to Fordham but just got accepted off of the WL for Georgetown's part-time program. It appears that you can't transfer between the part-time and full-time programs at Georgetown, which I find strange, but I guess that's the policy. My plan is to practice in New York. So is this even a choice, or are there legitimate arguments for both sides?

Fordham. Kind of a no-brainer.

For PT, do you even do OCI this year?

Great question. My impression, though, and someone tell me if I'm wrong, is that it might be difficult to go the whole traditional summer associate route through a PT program.

What kind of job do you think you'll be able to get at GULC PT? Edit: By job, I mean during the school year.

Also, at Fordham I believe you can't participate in EIW. At GULC, at least (next year I assume) you would be able to participate in a full OCI, and with a GULC transcript at that, which gives you a chance to actually compete for the more selective NYC firms if you do well at GULC. So I don't think it's a no-brainer to pick Fordham.

Edit for clarity

Doing well at Fordham gives you the same shot at NYC Biglaw, if not better, than GULC.

How so, if OP is missing the main OCI because they don't let transfers participate? At 3L OCI? That seems pretty risky.

Whoa, my bad, didn't realize this was in the Transfers forum. Thought OP was talking regular admission.

OP, find out if you can participate in OCI at Fordham. Still, I think GULC is better even if you have to go PT. Talk to OCS and OPICS about how to get a job for during the year; then, next year, you'll be able to participate in GULC OCI with GULC grades.

No OCI at Fordham = why transfer to Fordham? A part-time program at GULC is probably not optimal either.

What school do you attend? Did you get law review? A scholarship? If you are attending a good T2 or better, transferring might not be best.

I went to Pitt last year, and graded onto law review, but even that doesn't assure a shot at NYC, which is where I plan to work. So it is what it is, these are my two choices, and I'm looking to go to the school that gives me a better opportunity to get a good job there.

Unless something changed, yes you can, but maybe not as a transfer student (or maybe they changed policy). What I mean is that if you are part-time to start at GULC you can transfer into the full-time program (if selected when you apply) after 1L. But that doesn't sound like it applies to you, so I am thinking what you mean is that transfers into GULC can't eventually go from PT to FT.

I still vote GULC. It will give you a better shot at a "good job". Especially since you'll have GULC grades when you do OCI next year.

Go for GULC part-time.
