Tough spot.

if it were me, i would do nothing and hope that it is simply overlooked. I'd hate to bring any more attention to it.

Also, it appears to be pretty late in the cycle, so i'm not sure if this blunder will make much of a difference anyway... perhaps the more knowledgeable posters would disagree.

Thanks for the opinion. I am leaning more toward calling the person who responded, and telling her about the mistake and what I could do to take that e-mail out of my file, and send another e-mail that would be uploaded. Anyone else have thoughts?

I don't think it will make a difference. You're not the first person to do something like that. If they like you I'm sure they will take you.

Sounds like whoever answered your email was a low ranking douche bag in admissions. It would thrill them to death to have you write back in a panic.

I wouldnt worry about it. There is a good chance that whoever reads your file will be a legitimate professional and will understand that you simply made a typo.

OR...you can use the school's directory to find the email address of the admissions director, send an email DIRECTLY to that person, indicating that you made a clerical error, apologize, and explain the situation.

Funny you say that. The first e-mail was to a "low ranking douche bag." His auto-reponse told me to address it to the generic admissions e-mail. I did. The responding person is the director of admissions. *gulp*

Well, my own opinion having spent quite a bit of time working is that no matter how detail oriented a person is, as long as they are human these things are going to happen.

There is a reason people who behave that way are in academia.

I think it is odd that you would get a snarky email from an admissions director.

You do have the option of eating crow. A phone call might go a long way.

Yep. It's put me in between a rock and a hard place for sure.

Possibly something like:

"Sir or Maam, i wanted to call you directly because I want you to be aware that I meant no disrespect in my email, I merely made a mistake. I apologize sincerely, and would greatly appreciate if you would consider removing the email from my file. I am very interested in X institution, and I do not want a clerical error on my part to affect my chances for admission."

Dont blame the system or the email or anything else - just say you made an honest clerical error, you are extremely sorry, and you are willing to do whatever you can to remedy the situation.

Shows interest at the very least.

Remember at this point there is nothing you can do about how they react. If the people in that staff are so small minded as to evaluate a candidate based on a one word statement in an email, after that candidate took the time to repeatedly contact the school and show continued performance and interest, I say the staff should stay in academia because they are clearly not cut out for any form of customer service. You made an error. You apologized for your error. You acknowledged your error. Your error is no way indicative of a lack of interest in the institution or a reflection on your academic record. If they make a decision based on that email, well - as my former boss and multi-million dollar producer once said, there will always be ass holes, and god forbid you get an asshole in a position of bureaucratic power.

I spoke with the director of admissions and s/he was very quick to hang up. S/He sounded very rushed on the phone. Not sure if this is attributed to my phone call, or just the general hustle and bustle of the admissions office at this point. Oh well, what is done is done. Hopefully they take my call exhibiting a strong interest and clearing up that I meant no disrespect.

Unlikely, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed at the "jedi boy" admit file.
