From Boston, would like to live there, but interested in International Law. Half assed OCI at GW and missed OCI 1 at BU

Wait, you want to live in Boston and you're asking whether you should go to a school that places in Boston or one that doesn't? Very confused.

I don't understand either. You're talking about transferring from one to the other? You "missed OCI" so this seems to imply you're an incoming 2L. I don't understand what's going on here

i think he means transferring to one or the other; GW = shitty OCI for Boston vs BU = missed the deadline for OCI

Ahh, I thought "half assed GW oci" meant he participated in GW oci but didn't put in much of an effort.

Ya BU OCI session 2 currently has 9 employers, and none of them have any international presence. Actually only a couple have offices in Boston and the rest are scattered around New England. I think GW might be better if you're looking for international stuff cause you have a better chance with government agencies. Some of the profs have connections and might be able to help you too. I also assume that DC has more small-mid firms with international work.

It's July. How could you have "missed" OCI already?

The first week of OCI bidding is done at many schools. Ours was done last week.

OCI II isn't just crappy, it's essentially non-existant. It has 9 firms, only 2 of them with offices in Boston, and they are all small/mid-sized. Everything worth getting was OCI I; Off-Campus NY. I hate to say it, but you missed the boat. I'm not sure transfering here now will get you a Boston job?

I'm sure BU will give him a much better shot at non-OCI jobs in Boston than wherever he's coming from. OCI only accounts for like a 1/4 of BU grad jobs. If you meant transferring won't help him get a big law job, then ya, coming to BU won't increase his odds much.

Yeah, I found out about GW OCI 48hrs before it was due, so I got like 15 of 35 bids off with cover letters. I guess I missed the boat on BU, which makes me lean toward GW. Also externships with academic credit and government jobs. But I like BU's small size more, though the international curriculum doesn't even compare.

Chances for Big-law through GW OCI? 3 Best papers and top 10% at 60s T2

I'm thinking a bottle of tequila and a really drunk coin flip

Was .001 inside the top 10% at my T2. Can't remember all the firms, but mostly ones with international practices. Why is this so heavily BU? Better placement for jobs in Boston even though I missed OCI?

Boston is an insular market, your best chances are T14 + BU/BC. Hence BU >> GW if you want Boston.

no, PM my ur GPA. im not asking about rank. top 10% at a T2 could be 3.00 or 3.99. it matters for ur oci.

BU even though you missed OCI. It's where you're from so you have ties, and wouldn't mind living there long term presumably. Plus, biglaw from GW is not incredibly likely in my opinion even with OCI. As for the international thing, I wouldn't base my decision on that since it's not real.

WTF? Top 10% is top 10%.

Thats exactly what I meant, Boston firm work is out.

Why? If your school curves to a 2.0 and you got a 3.0, that's better than someone that has a 3.2 on a 3.3 curve (assuming school ranks were similar and yes I know no respectable school curves to a 2.0). If your school ranks, I don't see why GPA would matter at all.

Yeah, I'm not so sure GPA really matters all that much when compared to rank. Whether the school curves to a 3.3 or 3.0, median is still median, and top X % is still top X %. The actual GPA figure seems like its nothing more than aesthetic.

So I'm still stuck. I'm leaning towards GW bc of more classes in IL and more externships with government organizations during the year. BU said they would send my stuff out as an OCI addendum even though some firms have made their choices already. Basically I have no freaking clue which way to go
