I would imagine you would get in, though I have no idea about transferring. I was wondering why you didnt at least try to shoot of GW? No animosity, only curiosity (the best osity I believe)

I agree with this. American is overrated. It costs way too much and since you're transferring you'll be paying sticker. Also, American is not really in DC. Technically it's within the borders but it's closer to MD than the heart of DC. GW would be a better option if you can get in.

My transfer application status has finally been updated as "Complete" at American and I noticed I have been checking online a little too much. I'm sure I will hear back shortly, just wondering what people thought my chances were.

In this case I would transfer to American. If costs are equal then it makes sense to go to American over Hofstra/Rutgers. While I do mean what I said in my earlier post about American, American still has a pretty good alumni base in DC.

I think a lot of people transfer out of American so there should be plenty of space opening up.

This actually depends where you want to practice. If you are at Hofstra and want long island, I'd stay at hofstra. If you are at either Rutgers Camden or Newark and want New Jersey (NOT NYC), I'd stay at Rutgers. If you want DC, transfer to American.

OP, I think you'll probably get in. I was accepted from a lower ranked school with a lower class rank, so I don't see why you wouldn't be. Just my thought on that.

In response to those American nay-sayers, it depends what you want to study and practice. If you're looking for IP, GW all the way. But American has the better international law program. I've only heard of WCL graduates being extremely happy with their program; I've heard mixed reviews about GW. And in terms of being in DC, I grew up in the area, and no one thinks of American as a Maryland school.

Turnaround was pretty quick; I was notified on the 24th I think, my application was complete by the 15th.

I know you can take the NY bar and be accepted in DC, I have a friend who did it last year. I don't know much about the NY law schools, but if you have options, I would look at the programs the schools have and try to talk to some students at the schools to get a feel for where you fit better. It sounds like you aren't really leaning in one direction but trying to keep options open, and I think if you go to DC and do well, you'll be able to find a job in NY if you decide to, or if you stay in NY and do well, you'll be able to find a job in DC if you decide to. So it's probably just a question of fit.

Is there any info out there on # of transfer applicants/stats for American?

Nope, by email, followed by status checker, and then snail mail a few days later with the official letter. Letter was in small envelope, with three sheets of paper tri-fold.
