Did Loyola send out any emails acknowledging applications received or status checkers?

I'm curious as to why admission to USD precludes choosing Loyola, mostly because I might face the same decision.Birdman wrote:Nothing... sent in my app at the beginning of June. Got into USD, so I wouldn't attend Loyola anyways though.
If you get into LLS, I think you should go. I think LLS is pulling ahead of USD. USD grads really laid an egg on the July 2010 bar exam.Birdman wrote:I currently attend Thomas Jefferson in San Diego, so moving to LA for Loyola when I got into USD wouldn't much sense considering they're similarly ranked schools. Not having to move would be nice.
If you look at the curriculums for both schools, I think you will see that LLS has a lot more on offer. That is the benefit of being the larger law school. For example, if you are interested in tax law/policy, LLS is the clear choice. In a few areas, like Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine is better.lawschool8611 wrote:In at Pepperdine but waiting on Loyola...which one would you choose?
Depending on your career goals, I'd also look to see the number of firms that go to OCI at each school; last time I checked, LLS had a significantly higher number.lawschool8611 wrote:In at Pepperdine but waiting on Loyola...which one would you choose?
As far as employment prospects go...LLS is your best bet. USD doesnt have THAT much reach outside of SD, and the SD market is a small one to begin with. That being said, a Loyola degree will transfer down to SD much better than a SD will transfer up to LA. My 2 cents, go to Loyola if it is an option, if not USD is a good school but you gotta network like crazy ite to get a job.Danteshek wrote:If you get into LLS, I think you should go. I was thinking Loyola too. I'm not sure what field I want to go into, but I do want the best chance at working for a large firm.Danteshek wrote:If you look at the curriculums for both schools, I think you will see that LLS has a lot more on offer. On LLS website, it says the bidding for Phase I of OCI is closed. Phase II is in September. Does anyone know the difference between the phases?autumnaesthetic wrote:Depending on your career goals, I'd also look to see the number of firms that go to OCI at each school; last time I checked, LLS had a significantly higher number.lawschool8611 wrote:In at Pepperdine but waiting on Loyola...which one would you choose?
I forgot about their policy of reserving the goodies for the re-enrolling 2LsDanteshek wrote:If you transfer to Loyola, you will NOT get a 2L SA at a large firm. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Phase I is where all the action is. A few firms come to Phase II, but not nearly as many.
Hmmm...maybe I should go to Pepperdine. I don't think there bidding has closed yet.Danteshek wrote:If you transfer to Loyola, you will NOT get a 2L SA at a large firm. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Phase I is where all the action is. A few firms come to Phase II, but not nearly as many.
Basing your decision off OCI is really stupid. You have to come to terms with the reality that you will not be working in a large firm next summer. Gping to Pepperdine over Loyola will not change that. Think about the kind of education you want.lawschool8611 wrote:Hmmm...maybe I should go to Pepperdine. Not sure. I don't have access to the same list as rising 2Ls.Norwood wrote:How many firms does Loyola have coming to campus?
6 students transferred from Southwestern last year, including me. Top 20 percent should give you a fair shot.stadt wrote:I'm curious as to what some of your numbers are, for those who were admitted to LLS. Anyone from Southwestern transfer?
