Top Law Schools

Hello everyone, I hope everyone is doing well. I ended my first year of law school with a 2.95 GPA and top 30 percent of my class. What are the chances of being accepted to another 4 tier? I am tranfering in order to be close to my family and the network I built up before I came to law school.

That is the hardest curve I've ever heard of! A 2.95 is the top-third?!

pretty much. I just want to be near family and there is a 3 tier school and two 4 tier schools in my area. what do you guys think?

Top 30% at my school is a 2.86.

Top third at a T4 will probably put you in decent contention to transfer to a T3 and basically make you a shoe-in to transfer to another a T4, especially if where you are transfering to is where you have connections. T3's also don't get a whole lot of transfer applications so you can be sure your application will be at least looked at. Good luck on the T4 to T3 attempt.

edit: whether the T3 to T4 attempt is actually worth it, I would be very skeptical. Most T3's and T4's I would say are in the same group (T3/T4 group), with some outliers on either end (e.g Cooley on one end and Chapman on the other). That being said, if location is important to you, then I'd imagine the transfer should be a good decision regardless.

No problem. And if there are some T2's and T3's in the area (aka your not talking about Idaho or Montana etc. lol) I would defintely throw in some applications to those schools as well. It should cost you $40 - $60 per app fee, but as a transfer student I can tell you that the cycles are random as hell (albeit both ways) and connections are one of the top things schools look for in transfer students (besides good grades of course). I was top 30% at a 50-60 school and I made the jump to the T20, so you never know. Although I think you only have a slight chance of getting into a T2 with those numbers, its probably worth the app fees.

Thanks again. In reality I am praying for the 3 tier in my state because it is a state school lol. So I will just have to wait and see lol.

I would assume most T3s will be easy to get into. T3s and T4s tend to lose a lot of students due to transfers. So, I would assume you would have no trouble getting into most T3 schools.

Does it make a difference if the 3 tier is a state school?
