Transfer chances, just missed top 10%

Hi all,
I just missed the top 10% by .01 GPA points, which is frustrating. Currently go to Emory, what are my chances, if any, at any of the T-14? I'm not expecting much, let me know what you think.

Also, Emory used to be ranked 20, then 22, and now it's 30. I'm not sure what factor this plays in a transfer application.

Check requirements. In the recent past, for example, the Univ. of Virginia law school required top 5%.
Otherwise chances are slim at Harvard, Yale & Columbia.

Who cares what your chances are? Apply and see if you make it.

If they have such a requirement it isn't on their transfer site:

I'm going to end up applying anyways, so I don't need the encouragement. I was just wondering how realistic my chances are. By the way, I'm not trying to go to HYS, but GULC, UT, and Northwestern.

It may have changed in the past 3 years, but was in effect, or, at least, published in 2008. That is why I always encourage transfer applicants to check with the specific law schools.
Should be a strong transfer applicant for Georgetown & Northwestern, but Texas can be quite tricky for non-residents.

A friend of mine had similar numbers from Emory a couple of years ago, and ended up at Chicago (he was a minority though). Just an anecdote though.

Why not Duke and UVA?

I didn't really think I had a realistic shot there. Also, I prefer larger cities, or schools close to larger cities at least.

If Austin's a larger city, Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill should work fine. We've got a metro area essentially equivalent to Austin's. I can't speak to your chances, but why not try? I suspect they're better than you think.

I'm bumping, but also adding that I received a highest grade in my class award, probably doesn't matter much.

Actually, I think that that is a noteworthy accomplishment that is likely to attract interest from other law schools.

That distinction wasn't enough to get Chicago to bite on my ED application. Here's hoping it's good enough for round two, despite a drop in GPA.
