Asking for letters of rec from 2nd semester professors

Any tips here? Do you need to wait until grades are back? Personal experiences with this? The problem is that you can't give a 2nd semester professor a very long amount of time to write the letter.

Ask by yesterday. Try to talk to your professor in person as soon as possible. Tell them now that way once theyre done grading they can write it.

ask them now. there might be 10-20 other students that are waiting to ask the same professor. Get to the professor now so you could have some sort of priority.

Yeah ask asap. In my experience, professors don't care as much about what grade you got in their class (although a D probably wouldn't fly...). It's more about how much they like you and how much contact you've had with them.

How does the timing work? Some schools ask that the letters go through LSAC, while giving deadlines of June 15th. Grades aren't due until early June, which really doesn't give enough time for professors to write them, send them to LSAC who takes forever to process them, and then submit the application. Can you ask schools to accept them directly from the professors?
