Re: Boalt Transfer Thread for Fall 2011
I know this is probably a silly question, but should I sent an official Fall transcript with my application? I know I need to give unofficial/official Spring grades the moment I get them (probably mid june), but do I need to also send an official Fall transcript now? The instructions don't ask for one, but would it help?

Doesn't Berkeley want transcripts sent directly and not through LSAC? Or will they get fall grades through LSAC anyway as long as we send them there?

Receipt of Application Notice?
Has anybody received notification that Boalt has received their application? I applied on 4/3 and haven't heard anything since.

I would send them directly if that's what they want, even if it is just fall grades.
Applied on 4/1 and haven't heard anything either. Getting antsy.bkwhopper wrote:Has anybody received notification that Boalt has received their application? I applied on 4/3 and haven't heard anything since.

Most schools want transcripts sent directly to them for transfers. My question was should I send a Fall transcript with my application in mid-May, and a another transcript after Spring grades come out.

That's what I was curious about too, but said it poorly .random5483 wrote:keg411 wrote:Doesn't Berkeley want transcripts sent directly and not through LSAC? Or will they get fall grades through LSAC anyway as long as we send them there?

I have a spreadsheet of how each of the schools want grades (and a bunch of other stuff) .

Re: Boalt Transfer Thread for Fall 2011
Just sent my app, resume and PS.
Long shot for me. Last semester put me at Hastings' top 15%, at least based on prior year's rankings. That's obviously not enough. I need really extra awesome grades this Spring to put me in the top 10%, which still is only a far outside chance.
But I had $91 burning a hole in my pocket. So what the hell, right?
Fingers crossed. Good luck all.

Hoping to get my app out tomorrow. Scrapped the PS I was working on before exams; hopefully the new one will be better.

Re: Boalt Transfer Thread for Fall 2011
Well, I've decided to mosey on over here from the Chicago ED thread. Now that I'm a RD candidate, it's time to spread applications out to more T14 schools I think.
My school's writing competition starts on Friday, so I'll just split my time between those two. I'm not looking forward to writing yet another PS. My Chicago statement was very specific, so I can't realistically reuse it.
Should I try to get letters of rec from spring semester professors, or are the two from fall semester profs sufficient? I'm thinking I don't need them, but who knows.
Getting in at Berkeley would certainly make moving easier. Instead of driving clear across the country, I'd just have to drive across the Bay. My location is also what makes getting into Berkeley more difficult I think. I'd be willing to bet a good chunk of the top 10% will throw an app at Berkeley.

Re: Boalt Transfer Thread for Fall 2011
Does it matter when we apply if our letters of recommendation have not got back to LSAC? One is there, and the other was sent last night. If I apply now, will LSAC forward them later on, or does it all have to be done at once? Does Berkeley look at application before it's complete, or take note of the fact it was sent early even though not yet complete?

I think I missed the boat on this one for a couple of reasons (prob won't be close to the top 3-5% they mention as a cutoff for being competitive, and also I didn't realize how much of an advantage applying early can apparently provide).
I still plan to send an application though...

App sent yesterday. Hopefully this isn't too late. I'm in Berkeley's grade range now, but who knows after spring grades .

What is Berkeley's grade range? Based on first semester, I'm pretty sure I'm toward the very top of my class. Who knows after second semester.keg411 wrote:App sent yesterday. Hopefully this isn't too late. I'm in Berkeley's grade range now, but who knows after spring grades .

I don't see how it could possibly be too late. Considering they'll need your spring grades in a month or so.keg411 wrote:App sent yesterday. Hopefully this isn't too late. I'm in Berkeley's grade range now, but who knows after spring grades .
Or at least that's what I'm telling myself.
For me it comes down to consistent performance I think. If I repeat, I'm fine. If I drop ...

On their website it says top 3-5% is competitive, but it really depends on the school you go to currently.jstn1104 wrote:What is Berkeley's grade range? Also, missinglink, I'm in the same place as you. A repeat will put me in solid shape. If I drop, I might be screwed.

Re: Boalt Transfer Thread for Fall 2011
Cool thanks. I'm pretty sure I'm in the top 3% now (at a top 50 school)....hopefully I'll still be there when grades come in. Seems like Berkeley takes a lot of transfers.keg411 wrote:On their website it says top 3-5% is competitive, but it really depends on the school you go to currently.jstn1104 wrote:What is Berkeley's grade range? I applied a couple weeks ago and just need to update them with my grades.

Same here. I checked it out, then I had a big rush of nostalgia for this time last year. Then I got heartburn. Gonna be a tough 2-3 weeks waiting for grades.keg411 wrote:Status checker received . Now... to wait for Spring grades .
