Top Law Schools

I am currently a part time student at a TTTT looking to transfer to FT elsewhere. After finishing 1.5 years of PT I am in the top 10% of my class and graded onto law review. I am looking to transfer to a T1 or T2 in Chicago or Atlanta (including UGA). I know my chances at Univ. of Chicago are slim to none so I probably won't apply there, but what are my chances elsewhere?

How many credits do you have, and how many will you have at the end of the spring? Most schools have a hard cap on the number of credits you have to make sure that people are only applying after the end of 1L. Being PT and having been in as long as you have, you may or may not have too many credits depending on how many hours per semester you were taking.

I'll end up with about 40 credits after spring semester so I know I'll have to give up a bunch of credits. B/c I am PT I am technically finishing up my 1L classes this year (Civ. Pro., Property).

I don't think you understand. It's not about how many credits you "give up", many schools simply will not accept your application if you have more than the maximum allowed number of credits. You're ineligible to transfer under their transfer process and an auto-reject. I think I've seen schools with 28 credit limits, some have more and some have less, but any that does will definitely be less than 40.

I do understand. I haven't seen any schools with a requirement like that. Every school I've research either requires you to have at least 24-28 credits or they limit the amount of credits you can transfer, usually 28-30.

Regardless, back to the original question, any comments on my chances of getting into schools in Chicago or Atlanta?

CLS is pretty anal compared to a lot of schools though. They also don't take PT stufrnts' classes from 1L summer even if they'd put them above the minimum. You basically can't transfer to CLS as a PT student, period.

But maximums exist.

That seems iffy.

Good thing CLS isn't in Chicago or Atlanta.

Most schools say that as a PT student you need to have completed the equivalent of the first year of law school to transfer. So you have to have completed all the typical 1L courses with a grade of higher than a C.

It seems like most schools won't accept summer credits towards the minimum requirements for transfer (assuming they were taken summer after 1L for a transfer for 2L). Can anyone confirm or deny this?
