transfer from 22 (BU, Emory, UM, UND) to HYS or CCN?

Hi everyone, I'm sorry if this is repetitive of earlier posts, but I wanted to get a sense of my odds for transferring. I go to one of the schools in the 4-way tie for #22 (BU, Emory, UM, UND), and I have a 3.88 GPA for the semester. Based on data from past years I'm hoping this will put me in the top 5, but I realize it all depends on keeping grades up in the second semester. I have 2 years of work experience at a prominent legal non-profit prior to law school, and I'm openly GLBT. If there are any other softs that are relevant, please let me know.

P.s. I've tried my best to hide my identity to avoid disclosures to my classmates. If I've made any mistakes and accidentally revealed who I am, i apologize in advance to my fellow 1Ls.

This may seem like a stupid question, but it's important, and hard to figure out from here because different schools have different curves and either answer could be true.

Do you mean "top 5%" or "top 5 students"?

Start thinking about getting those reference letters. Any of last semester profs from the schools you would like to transfer? Congrats on the GPA.

Sorry about that, i meant top 5%. Top 5 students is possible, but it's probably a stretch.

I have a feeling that I know who this is, but I won't go and blow your cover if I'm right. Congrats on the awesome grades and keep up the good work.

In your situation, Y is so unlikely it's not worth the app fee, IMO. That's the bad news.

The good news is that I know a number of people at HLS who transferred in from schools of that range. I think your GPA is just a little low for what they normally take, but I also know that they don't just take the applicants with the highest GPA or rank. Your work experience will help, and any unique things you can share about bring LGBT would really help, since then you're adding diversity to the class with your experiences and they're going to be looking for that.

If you have specific reasons to give for wanting to transfer up, how it relates to your goals or ambitions, highlight those. You're in a strong enough position now that it's at least worth the app fee to H and S and CCN if you really want to transfer to any of those schools. Sell yourself as best you can and you have a chance at all of them. At H or S I'm not saying it's a great chance, but it's certainly worth the app fee.

Good luck.
