Top Law Schools

I am looking for advice from people who have asked professors for a LOR. Has anyone ever had a professor say no to giving them a LOR when they got an A in their class? I plan on just giving them my personal reasons for wanted to transfer which is that I want to work in M&A and that my current school is not good for that. I will probably follow up and ask them about their own professional careers. I am not some 1L who just started law school. I started last January and will be applying to transfer in the spring. Anyone have advice about asking for the LOR?

Had one prof who did it reluctantly and said that he'd write the letter, but if I transferred our relationship would be over(I read the letter, it was passable). Had another prof who passively aggressively refused. He initially agreed, but then ignored my follow ups (he seemed pretty anti-transferring). Had two others who said they were sorry to see me go, but were glad to write the letters for me.

Some profs. just don't like when students transfer.

I went to office hours so I was already "in" with my profs prior to asking. I also asked 2 profs I wouldn't have in the 2nd semester in case it went sideways, which it didn't. Both went to top 6 schools and were eager to help. 1 insisted I meet with the Dean of Students prior to him writing it but after I did that he wrote it no problem. I wasn't able to read either but I assume they were good.

I was a little worried about this. I know at my school administration actually tells professors not to give lor for students that want to transfer. It puts them in an awkward position. I wouldn't be surprised if administration telling professors not to give out transfer lor was fairly common at lower rank law schools.

I transferred from a low ranked school, and the professors I asked had all expected me to apply to transfer. One actually helped me with my list of schools to apply to. The Dean of Students wouldn't meet with me, but I didn't need him because the registrar was really great about sending out the letters of good standing.
