My Final Transfer Decision (Poll)

Alright to update you on my transfer situation, since declining to attend W&L:
I was accepted at Emory today via e-mail and rejected at GW via snail mail. Now my decision is to stay or transfer to Emory. As a side note I have been offered at state trial level clerkship in Maryland after I graduate, which I would give up if I transfer to Emory. However, I understand that this clerkship is at the low end of the totem poll. I am happy in either city and would like to do mid to big law, although I know OCI is going to still be near impossible as a transfer. I am making my decision thinking in the long term.
Thanks for the input.

This is how i see it.
You will not get a job through OCI at both places.
Catholic will cost you 40k less.
Do you think an emory name is worth 40k? IMO yes.
SInce you are already 100k+ in debt, 40k isnt THAT much more.
People actually know emory.. no one knows where catholic is. Catholic is lost in the DC shuffle. Tons of big schools with 300+ people trying to get positions in a decent but saturated market. Try your luck down south... although emory has their own problems to worry about... 21 OCI....

Have fun at Emory, even though you are "the competiton," haha. Hopefully we can be classmates.

I think I messed up my apps somehow. I know people keep telling me that there is still time, but ALL 6 of my target schools have yet to respond. I fail to see how that is possible when people with similar numbers to mine have been getting accepted left and right over the past month to every school remaining on my list.
No hijack intended. CONGRATS ON EMORY!

Hope to see you both here. PM me if you have specific questions.
Transfers probably won't fair terribly well at OCI though. However, there are 31 firms I think. Still not great, but 2nd round usually brings another 15 or so and most firms are represented by multiple offices.
Question. Why would you be giving up your state clerkship if you transfer?

The state clerkship is in a different state and I think if I transfer to Emory I am planning to stay in GA for a while.

That's probably a good idea. And while I don't know many people that do a state court clerkship out of state but plan to return, a job is a job. You may want to talk to someone who knows more about it. profs etc. And a lot of judges don't require you to take the bar in that state so that may not be an issue.

I agree that a job is a job for sure, but I think if I really wanted to do a state trail level clerkship I would stay at my current school. I am really excited about moving down south and am hoping I can get a job in Atlanta and if not some smaller legal markets (Charlotte, Charleston, Savannah, etc.)

The one big disadvantage I see in transferring to Emory is that even if I strike out at OCI at my current school I am in DC which leaves the door open to government jobs... especially the 6 figure debt I am expecting..

I guess everyone who transfers is giving up a lot at there current school for the increased opportunities of the transfer school.... just got to bite the bullet i guess

Just calculated the difference in debt will be about $65,000 more expensive at Emory.
