Ok guys, need advice. Among GULC, Northwestern, or Cornell, which would you pick if you want to practice on the west coast after earning your JD?

Without knowing anything else about your situation I would have to go with Northwestern. All three are great schools

Everything else being almost equal, except for my interest in entertainment law.

You won't do entertainment law. Go to Northwestern.

Maybe OP won't, but it seems like OP would at least have more opportunities to explore EL in Chicago than the other places.

Plus, Cornell seems like kind of a miserable place to live.

The obvious choices would probably be SLS or UCB, but I haven't yet heard back from them.

As a quasi-related corollary to OP's query, is there any point in applying to Cornell tomorrow if I don't hear from Chicago? And on that note, would taking Cornell over Georgetown if one wants to practice appellate law in DC be a senseless move? Or is my fetish for incredibly boring places where there's nothing to do enough to justify said move?

Good question. I think Cornell has much smaller classes than Georgetown, so you might have a more engaging experience and better access to profs.

Between cornell and gulc, I think you'll have much better odds getting a cb at a dc firm from gulc's oci.

Chicago isn't exactly a hub of entertainment.

I'm actually curious about this - for the west coast (SF in particular) does GULC or Cornell place better? Is there any real difference here?

The only EL that you'll be exploring here is the red line

FWIW, and anecdotally, I have heard that Cornell, do to its location in what I'm fairly sure is near Alaska, has gotten hard hit by ITE. Firms just do not want to make such a lengthy trip when they can recruit at more accessible (and higher ranked) locations.

I would also say that GULC may be more national than NU, but that if your entertainment law in LA plan doesn't work out (and it might not), NU may give you better prospects on the whole.

I didn't apply, but I'm just curious -- have you heard from Cornell yet?

Anecdotal evidence is generally not worth much.

Our OCI is just fine. Plus, you generally get offers through the NYC, D.C., and Chicago job fairs. I really doubt that there is a large difference between GULC and Cornell at the D.C. job fair. However, on this last point I am, of course, just speculating.

I'd say few OCI's these days are "just fine" but ok I guess.

Cornell's location is super inconvenient for other reasons, though :-)

Among Georgetown, Cornell & Northwestern, the clear choice is Northwestern in my opinion. Although not directly related to legal employment, the Los Angeles entertainment market has a large fraternity referred to as The Northwestern Mafia due to NU's famous theatre & communications school for undergraduates.
Are you considering USC or UCLA?
