Curricular Compatibility Issues for Transfers?
Does anyone know if curricular differences can be an issue in transferring?
For instance, some schools offer Criminal Law for 1L while others offer Criminal Procedure. Is it ever a problem if the school you want to transfer to has a different 1L course offering list than the school being transferred from?
Would you have to take the 1L level course that is standard at the new school (but not taken as a 1L at the school being transferred from) as a 2L?

Generally it is not a big issue (i.e. you wont' get rejected from a program that requires Criminal Law as a 1L class if the school you attended didn't require you to take crim law). But you generally *do* have to take the required courses to graduate, which means as a 2L you would be taking a class with the 1Ls.

Interesting. Sounds kind of nice: You'll be light years ahead of those in that class!nahgems wrote:Generally it is not a big issue (i.e. you wont' get rejected from a program that requires Criminal Law as a 1L class if the school you attended didn't require you to take crim law). If I go to Loyola-LA, I'll have to take Constitutional Law I spring 2L and Constitutional Law II fall 3L. Loyola students take the classes 1L and 2L.

Re: Curricular Compatibility Issues for Transfers?
Can anybody confirm that the second post ITT is accurate regarding transfers to T14/T6/YHS?
(the poster indicated that differences in curriculum won't be a problem in transferring and that 1L courses required at new school will definitely need to be made up in 2L [or 3L] years)
Interesting re: Loyola.

Re: Curricular Compatibility Issues for Transfers?
It depends on the school. At my almost t-14, nearly all transfers take at least 1 1L course. I actually know someone who transferred here from Washingon and Lee, and he was taking 2 1L courses in the second semester.
By the way, whoever said you want to take 1L courses is absolutely wrong. You won't be "lightyears" ahead of them, at least not in the second semester, and the classes are on a lower curve.
Look at the curriculum of the school. If it requires 1Ls to take a class on legislation and regulation and you are transferring to that school without taking that course, you can bet you're going to be taking it with the 1Ls next year.

I assumed this. I emailed them today with this question. Will report back.Danteshek wrote:If I go to Loyola-LA, I'll have to take Constitutional Law I spring 2L and Constitutional Law II fall 3L. Loyola students take the classes 1L and 2L.

I am at a school that doesn't do con law in 1L. Schools don't seem to care as I've been accepted at 3/4 so far. I wouldn't sweat it, they understand schools do things differently.

I was wrong. You can finish Con Law I and II as a 2L transfer at LoyolaDanteshek wrote:I assumed this. I emailed them today with this question.
