As you can likely tell from my avatar, I was very close to applying ... but IU Bloomington is NOT a transfer friendly school so I opted against it.

DESCRIBE their transfer unfriendliness

Probably means that they don't take many transfers thus making chances for admission as a transfer student low.

6 last year, and I think 3-4 the year before. All for very compelling academic/personal reasons, if you follow their guidelines on the website.

That's really odd. I wonder why they operate this way? A school really helps themselves by taking transfers. Apparently they didn't get the memo especially considering 10-12 people leave IUB every year according to the LSAC.

Yeah it is curious nonetheless, but I really wanted to go there out of undergrad and nearly applied to transfer, but I think you have to have a much better reason than "I want to live and work in Indianapolis." I mean, in all reality it is the same as Ohio State requiring transfer applicants "to be competitive with the incoming class", because in all fairness success in your 1L year should certainly trump an LSAT score, the only other school I hear rumored to do this is Harvard.

I think there are a lot of schools that say stuff like this. Texas and Notre Dame come to mind off the top of my head.

Stupid. One day they will realize the economic cost of this posture. There is a reason GULC takes 100 transfers- it's a HUGE cashcow.

My thoughts exactly.
