Top 25-30% even at a T20 is generally not competitive for these schools. Having been waitlisted might give a small boost to a borderline candidate (shows a sustained interest in that particular school) but I doubt it will put you on par with the many top 10% candidates.

You might have a small chance with the NYU situation. Is the financial reason which held you back particularly unique or compelling? If you simply followed scholarship money at a lower ranked school then it probably makes no difference.

It's extremely unlikely you'll get into any of those schools with those grades. I doubt an acceptance last year will change anything. You're borderline unemployable ITE. They're not going to take someone who is likely to strike out at OCI.

Haha things are bad enough w/o exaggeration. Top 25% at a T20 is far from "borderline unemployable."

OP: you knew before you started the thread, the chances probably aren't great. That said, if you can articulate your reasons for wanting to transfer while tying those reasons into your prior (sort-of) success w/ those schools, maybe some magic happens. G'luck.

Sorry, didn't mean for my post to come off so harsh. My point remains true though. Someone who is in the top 25-30% at a T20 has only a small chance of landing a Big Law job. Of course, other forms of employment (gov't, smaller firms) are attainable.

Well then, that's not "borderline unemployable" now is it dumb-ass? It's always so refreshing to see that law students can be as big of douchebags during the summer as they are during the school year.

The guy came in here asking for advice, clearly knowing that his chances were lower than average. There was absolutely no reason for those kinds of comments. We can't all be as intelligent as you eggshell, so please allow us lowly peons these fleeting moments of solace.

Very well said.

No need to insult me for a comment that I already apologized for Machine. I thought my reference to OCI was clear enough to connect "unemployable" to mean "won't get Big Law." It wasn't, so I cleared things up.

Yeah, I think EggShellPlaintiff is being a little pessimistic with this advice.

If you mean you are at a Vandy/UT/UCLA/USC, I think the top 25-30% gives you a very decent shot at big law. By no means secure, but certainly a serious look.

I don´t really know how the other T-25ish T20´s do, but I know that last year, top 15% at WashU was safe for big law.

The person you were responding to was exaggerating too much, but that doesn't call for this kind of language. Let's try to avoid calling people "dumb-ass" and "douchebag" in our rebuttals. A little civility goes a long way.

rbrown, comments like "suck it" are simply inappropriate. I did nothing to personally attack you; I merely offered my opinion.

I did not speak in absolutes. See, e.g., "borderline," "likely," "small."

Lastly, my information: I do not claim to know everything; however, I am aware of the following data points. 20-25% of my T20 got Big Law jobs through OCI (keep in mind this does not mean the top 20-25% of the class, as there are people on Law Review, URMs, and people with great connections that could be getting those jobs over people with superior grades); I know Georgetown had similar success, and I've heard around 30% of Boalt students got Big Law jobs through OCI. I also know about 15-20 percent of WashU students got Big Law jobs.

Anyone who thinks he/she is going to be swimming in offers with your grades is being unrealistic.

You just have to be careful with what you say and how you say it. Having a ~50% shot at biglaw from a T20 is not the same thing as "borderline unemployable." Whether you were trying to be funny, clever, or knowledgeable...you came off as none of the above, b/c your comment was flatly wrong. This whole thread hijack could've been avoided if you'd just thought about what you were going to say before you typed it.

Also, you say you don't speak in absolutes, but "borderline" becomes a lot less of a non-absolute when you use it to modify a word like "unemployable."

My apologies, eggshell. I got the info I wanted, so this thread can die now. Thanks for playing everyone!
