Top Law Schools

My final grade was posted this morning, bringing my GPA to a 3.77. I'm unsure of where that places me in GW, since they only tell us top 15% or top 35%. I know that a 3.65 or something around there is generally the 15% cut-off, so I'm assuming that I'm currently in the top 10%, maybe higher.

In any case, I've wanted to work in the Northeast, so I was wondering what my chances were with a school like NYU, or perhaps even Columbia. I'm naturally pessimistic, so be as frank as you want. Also, as a side question, would being in things like the Moot Court Board or Mock Trial help at all?

Seriously, why do you want to transfer? You're top 10%+ at a T20 school, a school where most grads take the bar in NY (where you want to practice). If anything, apply and use your transfer acceptances to try and leverage soem money from GW to keep you. If not, just stay at GW regardless. I really don't understand why ppl opt to transfer from a top school to go to another top school. You have great grades at a top school, you're going to get a good job...this may not be the case if you transfer (my lsat instructor graduated at median from NYU last year, no job offer anywhere not even secondary market).

you're right, sorry to OP I didn't directly answer your question. It just drives me crazy when I see threads like this.

It really depends on your rank, I'd say you have a good chance at acceptance to either of these schools, but you better be filling out applications frantically, NYU's deadline is July 1st and I think Columbia's is about the same (though i do not know off of the top of my head).

I also agree with the above poster in saying that you're in a pretty good position in the top 10% at GW and I would rather have that and LR at your school (assuming you graded on) than transferring to a higher ranked school.

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I've also considered potentially parlaying any acceptances into possible money from GW, but it's very very unlikely that GW would ever do something like that. Ever. I was just more focused on my chances at those schools in particular though, since you guys seem to know way more about the process than myself.

Isn't LR like 70% grades at GW? It's only 30% the writing competition -- my dean's fellow told us that above a 3.7 is almost a lock for LR.

Hm...wasn't aware of that.

In any case, thanks for the help all. Anyone else have any insight on this? I feel like the GPA is sort of on the cusp, so I'm not very confident with it as of now.
