If you don't want On campus housing (which is really off campus) then here are some suggestions:

Near USC:
Tuscany- Expensive but nice and safe. Some restaurants within the building. Closest housing you can get to the law school.
University Gateway- Brand new and looks really nice. Unfortunately a lot of undergrads will live there and might be sold out.
^ These two are pretty much the newest buildings by 10 years+

In addition most students live between Fig x vermont- jefferson x adams. I would find an apt you like within that region. Some of the best streets are 29th Ellendale W30th and others in between. From here you can ride to campus, takes about 7 min to get to law building. These areas are the safest around campus but safe is a relative term around here. Also if you want something quiet, don't live anywhere 28th street (the row). The best way to find an apt around hear is to drive around and find the ones you like. If you can't do that you can check out these websites: http://www.firstchoicehousing.com/, http://www.uscspots.com/, http://www.stuho.com/ and a ton of others just google it.

Downtown:
Many USC students live downtown. You can take the bus, drive, or light rail (coming soon). Downtown is "relatively safe" but extremely seedy. Get to know the area before you start walking around at night.

Some nice places downtown:
City Lights- expensive
The met: expensive
The met apartments: more reasonable
Glo: more reasonable
... there are a ton of apts downtown these are just the first I thought of

IMO the best compromise between price and niceness for lack of better word is the Pegasus.

Good Luck!!

Wish I was looking for housing around USC :|

Thanks for the reccomendations.. Ya I was thinking more along the lines of downtown... I check out Glo and Pegasus... Real nice but pretty expensive.. Trying to see if their is a better deal than the Medici in terms of niceness and location.
