Top 20% at T-50, any advantage transfering to T-25?

this is more conjectural than anything, as I will not be transferring, but an earlier post got me wondering about this. Is being a blank-slate transfer at a school like WUSTL, GW, or BU superior to being a top 20% student at a T-50 school like Wake Forest, Tulane, SMU, etc.?

0L advice: all the T-50 schools you listed are super regional. If you don't like the region and want a slightly larger or different region (i.e., WUSTL = Midwest, GW = DMV area and maybe NYC, BU = Northeast, whereas SMU = strictly Dallas for the most part), then that's about the only reason I can think of to transfer, because top 20% = job in most cases.

Probably not much. But it depends on location, monetary cost, and non-monetary opportunity costs (law review, established network, etc.).

yeah, in my case I have a half-tuition scholarship, love the school, the city, etc. not going anywhere

So why do you ask?

I was just really curious because of what I read in another post, was wondering if there was something I was just not thinking about. Also, just curious what other people's reactions would be.

I really don't see the benefit unless it is a completely location-based decision. Top 20% is a good ranking, especially at t1 schools.

Yeah, if I were determined to work in Boston, then BU would make sense. Same for GW in DC, etc. But if I was just a generic law student hoping to find a job, I would be happy with top-20 percent. That's why I was a little bit curious about the thinking I found in another post, top 20%student at a T-55 school looking to transfer to these sort of schools...I just don't understand the advantage being sought if it is not purely location based
