I am just within the top 4% of my class at a third tier in the pacific NW. Go ahead and predict the highest ranked school that is most likely to accept me. Thanks!

The bigger question is where you want to work and what your career goals are.

That is, of course always the question in considering where to transfer to. Honestly, I want to clerk after law school, and it doesn't really matter at all to me where that happens, so long as I have a fighting chance to do it.

Overall prospects >>>> location.

If he gets NU, he should take it, even if it means getting stuck in Chicago.

If you want to clerk >>> YH

And yes of course overall prospects are the main point but if he was fine with let's say midlaw in the Pacific NW UWashington should be first on the list and not necessarily a T14.

The input is much appreciated (keep it coming!). I'm just trying to get a sense of which schools are actual, achievable targets, and which ones are stretches. I plan on applying to all of the above, and the "art of the law school transfer" says that top 5% is a magic number coming out of T3, but I wonder how different/competitive the process will be with the huge influx of apps in recent years.

For me, Vandy will be the lowest ranked school that could possibly sway me away from UW. I also go to a t3 near the NW.

Keep in mind that people may be selecting UW without knowledge that they typically admit 2-3 out of 60+ applicants.

I'm definitely aware that UW has had pretty small transfer classes in the past. I guess we'll see what happens though. To be honest, UW is not my first choice, but since they do very well in the west I'd be crazy not to apply.
