Re: Official Georgetown Transfer Class of 2012-13
im just curious as to who else is playing the waiting game this summer with other higher-ranked T14s. my dream is for Columbia/NYU so i dont have to move but who knows when ill know my fate. my current school's deadline for grade submissions is june 15 and by the time my transcript gets sent out this can push a final decision to mid or late july (or even August if the admissions offices are slow).
for those who are playing the waiting game, what is your plan? is there a certain date where if you dont know anything by you'll just relocate down to DC? what happens if you find out AFTER you relocate that you're in?
one more question, my school's grades are due june 15 but the rank wont be ready until later. this means that ill be sending my grades solo w/o a rank. this should be enough to be complete right? the school will have my CURRENT rank but wont know my updated rank until who knows when.

I'm sort of wondering what chances we realistically have at landing BigLaw summer associateships this next fall at OCI. What are you guys thinking? Lots of people are saying that we will be viewed as being at the median of the GULC class. That gives us little hope, right? Am I being too pessimistic? Furthermore, what are your bidding strategies going to be? Are you going to shoot for the V100 range? V50? Dare anyone try and break the V30? I'm just wondering if any of you have thought about whether the gamble of making the jump to GULC as a transfer is worth it with the hopes of getting BigLaw. Thanks!

I think median is actually a little higher than what the employers will think unless you are coming from a t25 or 30 school. You will be looked at slightly more positively than if you did not transfer. For example, a few Univ. of Balt. and AU transfers did very well last year with firms that are familiar with those schools and have recruited from them. However, even if you have great grades from a "bad" school or a school a firm never recruits from, OCI will be much harder (a lot of transfers had a tough time last year). Going to a top undergrad school and doing well there also seemed to help some of the transfers as firms like to see that you were not always just a big fish in a small pond. On an unrelated note, did most of you pay sticker/close at your other schools first year and then do well (and thus have money offers now) or did you turn down highly ranked schools for a year to save money?

Roughly 40% of 2L OCI participants last year landed BigLaw summer associate jobs.Journeybound wrote:I'm sort of wondering what chances we realistically have at landing BigLaw summer associateships this next fall at OCI. Did everyone get a confirmation of their 800 dollar 2nd deposit? I mailed mine in last week and still haven't received any confirmation. I called them today and they said they still hadn't received it, but the woman said she would mark me down as attending for now.

So now, what's the deal? We have to make a final payment (of about 20K) for fall tuition by July 26? Is there a way to push that deadline back if we still haven't heard back from other schools? Is tuition refundable for a certain period?

Where are you getting the 20K figure from? How would we be able to afford that if we will not have our financial aid by then?

It just says that fall tuition is due on July 26, 2010 (check the admitted students website).
I assume that's half of total tuition - which is roughly 43,000, so like 20K?

Wow, you are right. I sure hope that I hear back from the other schools that I'm applying to by then. However, I bet that they have a refund policy up until classes start. Furthermore, it said that we can still get lie $600 back from our deposit if we withdraw sometime in July. I really want to get my grades back and see where I get accepted just to make a final concrete decision.

I emailed them an apparnetly the July 26 deadline applies only to incoming 1st year students and the payment deadline for incoming transfers is august 23. I'm going to email them and recommend they clarify that on the incoming students website because it's really not clear at all.

Do any of you know what the median GPA at GULC is? Or what percentile would a 3.5 at GULC place you in? Thanks!

Anyone been doing anything for the Gtown OCI or has anyone done/plan on doing the write on competition?

I've got all of my bids lined up for EIW, and I'm doing the journal comp next week. I'm curious about the curve because I was told by GULC that a 3.9 would equal out to about a 3.5 or so at GULC during EIW.

I believe that you receive $600 of your $1200 deposit. I'm not sure if there is a deadline, however.

How do we adjust our transfer GPA for purposes of OCI?

Re: Official Georgetown Transfer Class of 2012-13
I am meeting with a CSO tomorrow and will ask about GPA conversion, etc. Is it really true that transfers will be looked at as median applicants during OCI? I am top 10-15% from a t20 school, and being equated with a gtown median would be a disaster. I'll find out more tomorrow.
What have you guys heard about transfers and OCI from last year? The CSO I met before said that they do just as well as regular gtown students, but I find this kind of hard to believe.
Any other OCI info anyone might have?

^^ Why'd you leave when you were top 10-15 at a t20 school?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
