Re: Official Georgetown EA thread
is there any pattern as to when they release decisions...such as always on a monday or friday?
as much as I want to find out sooner rather than later, I'd either like to know in the next week or after finals. I'm not sure my little brain could take dealing with finals and finding out from GULC at the same time. Sad but true

Even though I'm probably an auto-admit (1st in my class, t30 school, 4.0), just reading this thread scares me.

Sounds like an autoadmit to me. Congratulations, you are the smartest.traydeuce wrote:Even though I'm probably an auto-admit (1st in my class, t30 school, 4.0), just reading this thread scares me.

I love the speculative progression in this thread. If nothing else we are all good at making educated guesses backed by an extremely small set of data and our own personal dreams.

Re: Official Georgetown EA thread
So if you get in, are you undoubtedly going to transfer? Do you really think it is worth it to give up the #1 rank at a school in the 20's just to move up ~10 spots, esp when you could probably get in HYS?traydeuce wrote:Even though I'm probably an auto-admit (1st in my class, t30 school, 4.0), just reading this thread scares me.
Hopefully this is a flame or G-town EA really might be more competitive this year!
PS. the transferapps database for 2010 is up now if anyone is interested and hasnt seen it yet. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/transferapps/database

^^
Who is to say that I'll get into HYS - I guess I have decent odds at CCN, even if this semester goes a little worse. I may well take a C, C or N over GULC, even though I don't care for New York at all and don't like law and economics. As to GULC vs. top of the class at my mystery t30, a couple things. A, no guarantee I stay at the very top. Three years at a place that I'm not the craziest about could eventually wear on me. Or maybe I just got lucky last semester! Let's say, though, that I'm more or less sure to end up in the top 5% - I still would leave. I really want that 1 in a 1000 chance of being a SCOTUS clerk, which is just off the table here completely, I really would like to stop being Mr. Go To Guy when professors need someone to answer a question - actually, take that back, it's not that that I mind, it's that there aren't more people around equally capable of being the go to guy - and I don't think I'll get any smarter here. It's way too easy for me to just write a brief last-minute, or not study very much for an exam, and basically be assured it will be one of the two best papers/exams the professor gets in his stack. And the amount of effort I put in here won't be enough when I'm writing some appellate brief in the Seventh Circuit. I basically feel, aside from some things I've learned about torts or whatever that I've already forgotten, that I really haven't obtained any skills or knowledge that I didn't have already.

So I looked at the yahoo group for 2010 transfers. Pretty solid group so far. Kinda depressing...

I just found out through yahoo groups that the person who's #1 in my section is considering transferring, too. fuck.willnumber85 wrote:So I looked at the yahoo group for 2010 transfers. Pretty solid group so far. Kinda depressing...
It all seems to make sense now--we're going to be competing for the exact same schools, and frankly, I think she has more of a chance than some lowly engineer. fml.

Re: Official Georgetown EA thread
I said this a few posts back, but since its a recurring theme Ill say it again
You guys that are freaking out about those of us that are at top 25 schools and top of the class, don't need to worry so much. I think i said last time, its like the student with a a 3.6 and 170 worrying about the 4.0/180 student taking their spot at GULC, but the reality is the 4.0/180 is getting into HYS or CCN.
Some people use GULC as a safety, just in case there is a big drop the next semester. It works out well for GULC, because they get the extra 250 bucks, and they tend to know how much of a yield they will get anwyays, so its not like they are going to deny worthy students. It also works at well for the top student, who needs to safeguard in case they do drop to top 15% rather then very top. over 100 students matriculate at GULC every year. Think about how many are likely accepted then, its likely almost double that.
GULC knows that when it comes down to it, almost everyone who has the choice between HYS or CCN will choose those schools. They understand transfer admissions, and part of the reason they have the EA program is to attract as many students as possible to apply.
So while obviously I understand the nervousness that everyone seems to have, worrying about the top students at top 25 or 30 schools really shouldn't be one of them. The reality is that those people won't be one of the 100 that matriculate, and if they are one of those 100, they likely dropped enough grade wise to the point that they are no longer the top student anyways.

Re: Official Georgetown EA thread
While I don't want to be negative and I also don't think the Snowpocalypse will have any effect at all on when we find out - this is the closest to being correct. Not to rain on the big parade here or to be a pessimist, but I would put a substantial amount of money on the week of the 19th to be the earliest we could hear (the 23rd). Just trying to assist others in not being disappointed when they dont here anything in the next two weeks.plyersplyer wrote:I'm betting they'll be from the 26th-2nd week of May. Re: Official Georgetown EA thread
Hey all. Sort of asked this before but never got a clear answer. Does anyone know how many EA applicants get accepted as transfers? Is it around 80-90, or do you think they let in more or less during this part of the transfer cycle? Thanks!

Re: Official Georgetown EA thread
I would doubt it is that high, but who knows? Last year it seemed most applicants were deferred and very few rejected with only the strongest in the group getting an offer via EA. If you do not have very strong credentials of the kind that a repeat performance wouldn't get you into a better school than GULC, then you probably won't get an EA acceptance. Which makes sense, GULC is trying to snag people it wouldn't otherwise get via EA, as well as get some extra $$$ from seat deposits. But do not despair! A lot of the deferrals will turn into regular admits over the summer.JR00576 wrote:Hey all. Sort of asked this before but never got a clear answer.
