We can park in the law lot after 5pm and on weekends, right? Do we get in by swiping our parking pass or our ID card?

Also, if anyone needs more mentoring, let me know. Good luck with classes on Monday!

I forgot I had my wallet in my backpack today, which resulted in me actually having to get out of the car to go into my trunk. Total rookie move.Bosque wrote:ID Card. Your advice didn't come quick enough to save the person behind me when I had to back out because I didn't have my ID card yesterday.Bosque wrote:ID Card. I think Dean Belk mentioned this, but Duke Performances are where it's at this year. I'm going to all of the classical and some of the others, and if anyone else wants to go just let me know. It's $5 a ticket and you can get 2 at that price per ID!

This guy will be here. He's one of the few people in the world who can successfully pull off Alkan's Concerto.

I think so, but you are still going to need the ID card to get into the building. Just get used to carrying it around all the time.Jericwithers wrote:Your advice didn't come quick enough to save the person behind me when I had to back out because I didn't have my ID card yesterday.Bosque wrote:ID Card. Go to the Duke Card office.Reedie wrote:I have no id .
Walk past the union building, toward the archway that leads to the grassy quad.
In the archway, turn left. Enter through that door. The office is right there to the left.
The process is quick (not even 5 minutes), but I had to wait about 20 minutes because the service was excessively slow.

Briefing/reading a case sucks. Why was I not informed of this during orientation? This would have been my proposed schedule for lead week, it needs one extra day.
Monday: Don't lie, cheat or steal
Tuesday: Don't kill yourself
Wednesday: If you have free time, plant a flower
Thursday: Your professors are people too
Friday: Here is what you really need to know about completing law school.

Re: Duke Class of 2013
Actually I hadn't tried briefing anything yet when I posted that (I'm trying now). There are just so many different ways to brief, but the 'FIRAC' method seems quick and beneficial. I just have difficulty understanding the "application" or reasoning of the cases.los blancos wrote:Jericwithers wrote:Briefing/reading a case sucks. Why was I not informed of this during orientation? I'm already getting annoyed at the workload of LARW relative to my other classes.

I like LARW. I feel it's the most important class. And I actually kind of enjoy the work. Though my first assignment really sucked.thickfreakness wrote:I'm already getting annoyed at the workload of LARW relative to my other classes.

So can anyone tell me how to properly use law ruled paper?

Re: Duke Class of 2013
It is most definitely not. Legal writing will never again be like LARW. For LARW, the stress is on the form (citations, argument structure, headings, ect.). In REAL legal writing, so long as the form is proficient at getting your point across no one cares about it. What everyone actually cares about then is the substance and creativity of the writing. Which is not at all what you are graded for in LARW. In fact, your professor flat out tells you what the substance of the writing needs to be. If you do actually try and be creative, the best you can expect is a pat on the head in the form of a comment. It won't help your grade.los blancos wrote:I like LARW. I feel it's the important class. I thought I was going to hate writing memos for work after going through legal writing. Turns out it is actually fun.

EDIT: AKA, don't ask me. I still use my engineering paper for everything.

Re: Duke Class of 2013
The left side is where you write the headings and other ideas so you can flip through the pages quick to find a particular topic of interest. If you never had problems finding something of interest quickly in UG notes; however, then don't reinvent the wheel.los blancos wrote:So can anyone tell me how to properly use law ruled paper?
Glad to hear that LARW is just about form and not substance (as a business student thats all I know).

Re: Duke Class of 2013
I actually briefed the cases for property and civil procedure (just from the intro assignments) and it helped me understand everything a lot better. I'll probably do the same for torts tonight if I can't sleep.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
