Have you sent in your app for this cycle yet?

not yet
i'm going to retake the lsat to see if i can get more scholly $. i figure it's probably easier to send in the app with the new score than to have to deal with negotiating later on (assuming i can get 1-2 extra points)

Hopefully I will be joining you guys in the next few months! UT is my top choice, and I'm fairly certain I can get in. I've been living near Austin for the past four years, so I could probably be helpful if anyone has questions about the area.

UT is my top choice. 3.96 LSAC GPA, just hoping i score high enough on the Sept. LSAT we just took

practicing between 165-170....so hopefully if i scored in the higher range i won't have to sweat my app too much.
btw....My pre-law advisor keeps telling me that applying ED is only for those with amazing numbers, and that it would likely hurt my chances of acceptance.....That seems contrary to all the arguments i heard before, and I am thinking i should still ED to UT.... Any advice to solidify my thoughts?

Unless they have changed it since last cycle, UT's early application is non-binding, so there's no reason not to. Early applicants also seem to do very well with scholarship money. I'd go for it. Non-binding Early Application = Sweet
Oh, and as a general rule, most pre-law advisors know nothing.

Hopefully I will be going here for Class of '13, woohoo! I've got a 3.97 and a 166, good softs, lots of WE, in-state resident, so hopefully I can get in there! Who wants to start a prayer group here in ATX for all of us? Haha!
Any other current Austin residents hoping to waltz up Dean Keaton next year? What's everyone's scores, etc?

Texas is the only school I want to go to!
Do you guys think I have a shot?
3.0/ 170
also, would it be wise to include documentation of a learning disorder with my applications (helps explain low gpa)? will this hurt or help me getting into UT? Ive asked a few psych professors and some say yes while others say no. what are yall's thoughts?

Anybody know how long you have to decide whether or not to attend after you get the (non-binding) ED decision?
I was thinking that if their non-binding ED was basically just EA, I'd shoot them an app just to get a decision back quicker.

I'm out of state and I just got accepted with a 3.74 and a 164, so I think you've got a good shot. good luck! Also, any one else out of state? I suppose I will be one of the few with a 35/65 ratio. I'm excited though, it is SUCH a cool school.

As a 1L, I can tell you Texas is a great place to be at. Top academics, great career prospects (relative to top 15 schools in this economy), and best of all -- top quality of life. I highly doubt that any law school has as good quality of life as UT. Austin is consistently top rated for quality of life (i.e. CNN gave it #1, Forbes #2, last I checked). The social life here is very good. Everyone is laid back, friendly, and nice. Definitely a top school to go to. Esc was accepted to Harvard and still turned it down. Probably a good choice; Harvard would just set him back $250k and put him in the same place.
Esc and I have very different lifestyles, but we both get a lot out of it here in Austin. If you look at the statistics of students who go through law school depressed, you'll definitely want to give strong consideration to a place where the students are happy.

I was accepted beginning of November last year, but didn't send them my seat deposit until about two weeks before the absolute deadline, which if I recall correctly was April 1st. You don't have to decide any quicker than an RD person.
Hmm I remember getting accepted about 10 days after my application was complete. UT is pretty fast. I sent in my deposit after weighing the options and realizing I have no money and the CA/NY economies were just smashed. I also realized that the northern law schools have too many mean people and ultra-competitive backstabbers and I don't want to be in that environment.

I submitted my ED application ON Nov. 1, and I just got a phone call today telling me that I was accepted and they will be sending me a scholarship offer soon. I was pretty surprised to hear back so fast. I'm in-state, 170 LSAT, 3.8 gpa.
UT is definitely one of the very best law school options in this economy. There's going to be such a backlog of law school grads since so many firms are not hiring or even doing on campus interviews this year. Not the best time to take on all that debt. NY Times had a great article about this back in August.
