I plan on purchasing a laptop before starting this Fall. I noticed on the Villanova Law website that there is a Dell purchasing program that is convenient because you can have your computer serviced on campus. I tried to check it out a bit and possibly look at rates but I didn't get very far. Any insight?

Buy a Mac. Apple offers discounts for all students.

If you are going to buy a Mac, wait until they introduce their new models that should include the new i3/i5/i7 processors.

Yes, but Intel according to some memos won't be shipping those out until summer due to shortages.

That being said, I'd wait as well.

BTW there's a similar laptop thread here:

I received my Dell Lattitude Z two days ago. Ordered it off the Dell website with discounts to each school. You have to set up an account. Not a bad price. I also got some additional dollars cut off the price when I called in to order. Through the higher education link on Dell, you customize but have to either have your school complete the purchase or call into the helpdesk and order yourself.

Daughter has a Mac, but I didn't want to relearn an operating system in addition to getting my tail kicked learning law.

Many manufacturers offer discounts for students and most universities nowadays have student purchasing programs where you get discounts. Inquire with your school's purchasing office and their technology/IT office. One of the two should be able to direct you. If you go with Dell just get a service plan that offers next-business-day shipment of parts and in-home repair. They are worth many times the cost if you beat your laptop to death like some of us do.
