Thanks! Recently learned what a Sooner was. Oh growing up on ACC basketball and nothing else.soonergirl wrote:There's one mgmt company that I've seen over and over again to avoid. *sigh* Boo that, I really wanted to meet people and do the whole thing.
So anyways, I'm going down next week now to look at housing and Austin. Anyone have any suggestions for management companies/ apt complexes/ whatever to look at while I'm down there? Pretty set on Hyde Park.

Gr those Sooners. My (very poor football) undergrad played OU a couple of years ago. First home game, they were totally gonna crush us. I was in the band, so I had to go. I got spit at, flicked off (by a 9 year old!), mooned, flashed, yelled at... and then they beat us 77-7... and we had like NEGATIVE SIXTY FIVE rushing yards. Even the alums in the stands were telling us how much they hated us. Oh, those classy Sooners.
EDIT: No offense to you, soonergirl, I'm sure you're one of those rare, pleasant Sooners (after all, you came to the light in choosing UT law!)

UNT? That was ugly. Could be worse...we ran up A&M 77-0.mcflooter06 wrote:O who?

yeah, Stoops isn't known for class, and neither are the fans. But if you think the home games are bad, you should see how ugly the atmosphere is at the Cotton Bowl every year.
OU was really bad all through my undergrad (the only team we *didn't* lose to was Baylor), so it's hard for me to relate to all the in-your-face kinds of fans.

We played Texas the year before, which was almost AS awful, but, hey, the fans sure were classy!

I'm excited about the football--I went to UNC, so I had the whole rah rah sports thing with basketball, but football is a different breed. I was raised a die hard Packer fan (we have season tickets to lambeau), but never really had a college team to cheer for.
My best friend went to Bama but...ugh.

Whoops, just saw you asked me about my knowledge of the Triangle area. Yup, went to Chapel Hill. I actually transferred from NYU, and was deciding between Chapel Hill and Duke as my final two choices. Both have great aspects about them. PM me with any specific questions.Jericwithers wrote:Texas teams gotta look out for each othermcflooter06 wrote:We played Texas the year before, which was almost AS awful, but, hey, the fans sure were classy!

Does anyone know if we need to buy the season tickets during the summer, or do students do that at the beginning of the year? I saw on another thread law students usually sit together so I have no idea how that works.

yeah, but they've got a great music department, so if you were in the band there, that's pretty cool. I have a friend that majored in music down there.mcflooter06 wrote: Haha yes, unfortunately, I belong to the (not-so) Mean Green. We seriously sucked, and that game was pretttty awful.

I do have a question, though. Can you sell your tickets if you can't make a game? I assume student tickets are only usable by other students?

Re: Texas 2013
For season tickets you can create a group and get the seats next to each other, but if you draw tickets you just have to draw them 'together' at the same time (just have everyone's ID). I always get anxious about around it is the time to buy tickets so I don't miss out, but I think it opens up around July. You buy the LASP (draw tickets, and a prereq for season tickets) when you do fall registration but I don't know how that works for 1L law year. This is a very important think to find out though lol.Pearalegal wrote:mcflooter06 wrote:Pearalegal wrote:I'm excited about the football--I went to UNC, so I had the whole rah rah sports thing with basketball, but football is a different breed. I went there to be a music ed major, and, obviously, I chose a different route- it was ridiculous. Apparently playing the flute at that level was just not something bestowed upon me.
I commend anyone who has stuck with that program!

+1. I know as an undergrad you buy the LASP when you register for classes... but if our 1L classes are chosen for us, then do we still register? When do we buy our LASP?Jericwithers wrote:For season tickets you can create a group and get the seats next to each other, but if you draw tickets you just have to draw them 'together' at the same time (just have everyone's ID). By the way, a couple of friends and I closed on a 4 bedroom house today in Hyde Park. Enormous amounts of space for $675 per bedroom.

Bringing up a dying subject, but I recently read this article on how the IPAD might affect the legal workspace.

Interesting, but I don't see what the ipad would add to productivity that a netbook/laptop doesn't. A convertible macbook air with touchscreen would fit my fancy though, or just a tablet PC.UTaylor526 wrote:Bringing up a dying subject, but I recently read this article on how the IPAD might affect the legal workspace.

Talked to a 3L on the phone for quite a while. That was cool. He's going to set me up with some other older students so I don't feel like the only senior citizen around.

Re: Texas 2013
So I just deposited for Texas. I'm turning down a full ride at Baylor to pay out-of-state sticker at UT. I figure it's worth 200K to not play the "what if" game for the rest of my life. Still, I'm really freaking out about the huge finacial decision I just made, so written affirmation would be awesome right about now. Ready...Go!
PS: Thanks to Esc, Catharsis, Estrellas, Adrib, YEM, and other posters that have helped me through the decision process. Whether it was through PM's or simply replying to my posts, you guys have been super helpful.
