Top Law Schools

Looking for opinions on UVA (no money) or Emory (81K merit based scholarship). Loved UVA, haven't visited Emory yet (but am attending ASWs for both in the next month). Should I go by rankings, or are there significant reasons why Emory would be a good choice (aside from the money...although that is a significant reason)? Not sure where/what I want to practice upon graduation. Any insight would be much appreciated!

UVA hands down.

It depends on how debt averse you are, but unless you're already saddled with substantial undergraduate debt I don't think there's any way you should pass up UVA. It is going to beat Emory in its own market, plus Charlottesville is better than Atlanta.

At best, Emory is fourth in its home market, behind UVA, Duke, and Vandy. Emory will trail those schools in virtually every other market as well. The drop-off from the Southern Big Three is too great to ignore - head to UVA.

That said, you can't know with any certainty that you have not received a scholarship because they are still sending them out, so wait it out another week or so...

Definitely haven't received a scholarship to UVA. I've heard mixed reviews from people negotiating scholarship offers with UVA--I'm not sure my numbers would even deserve a scholarship so I haven't sent anything, although I mentioned it to an admissions officer at UVA's ASW.

Am attending Emory's ASW next weekend and am banking on getting a "feeling" from the school one way or another (as Emory's deposit is due the following week...).

Any last minute opinions?

Welp, for anyone who might still be paying attention, I'll be headed to UVA in the fall! I was actually surprised by how much I liked Emory when I visited for ASW, but UVA won out in the end for a number of reasons, including name and prestige.
