Thanks for the breakdown of your visit lt, much appreciated.
I was reading somewhere that law students get reduced pricing on housing:
1) is this true or did I dream it up?
2) if this thought is rational, where can we see the reduced figures?

If you select a community you can view communities and there is a page where you can view rates. The prices are well below market. Two bedrooms seem to go for about $1800-$2500 market and 3 bedrooms $2200+ at market. Now the communities seem really nice but EEK - a lot for my husband and I spend. If he scores a good job though we may choose off campus. But I like the idea of having the gym right across the street. A lot easier to go when it is right there.

http://www.housing.uci.edu/rates.asp1bedroom flat $934.00
2bedroom Flat $583.00
This is for palo verde. Why are 2 bedrooms with more square footage so much cheaper than a single bedroom with smaller sq ft?

I think he got this figure from the UCI packet in the housing section where it lists the different communities and what each costs for a studio, 1 bdrm, etc. But I also think that 500 dollar bedroom figure is the price for renting an individual bedroom within a house. I don't have the packet in front of me, but this is what I remember gathering when I looked through it.
And Veritas--UCI all the way Unless of course you have an affinity for cows and want to work in Sac or SF rather than Orange County or LA.

Re: UCI 2013!
I don't think you can even get 1 bedroom in a 3 bedroom/4 occupancy for that low. Check out the housing website for more current rates.Faesha wrote:Veritas wrote:umm +1DoctorNick189 wrote:Hold up, where did you see that?SandyC877 wrote:am i seeing the housing units right? you can get your own 1 bedroom for 500 bucks a month??

Should be, because each resident signs his individual lease agreement and pays lease individually, even in multi-bedroom apartments. Besides, they can't make law students do math. Long division???Veritas wrote:is that a per person rate?SandyC877 wrote:http://www.housing.uci.edu/rates.asp1bedroom flat $934.00

Re: UCI 2013!
Nowhere in the brochure does it say "multiple bedrooms are shared with others." (unless I overlooked it) I'm assuming since 2bedroom is listed at 583.00, it means just that - you pay 583.00 and you get 2 bedrooms. But if it sounds too good, it probably is too good indeed.lobstar wrote:Should be, because each resident signs his individual lease agreement and pays lease individually, even in multi-bedroom apartments. Re: UCI 2013!
Irvine is indeed a bit on the sterile side, but that also means it's clean/safe/etc. I wouldn't want to live here forever, but for three years it's pretty nice. Also, there are a number of places you can drive to in just a few minutes(Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Santa Ana) that don't have the master-planned suburbia feel of Irvine itself and have an actual 'downtown' area. Having those beaches perpetually 10-15 minutes away is pretty nice.

I am so excited. 99% chance I'm there barring a few miracle acceptances.
And OMGZ - there is not one but TWO Persian grocery stores in Irvine. As a half Persian I <3 this!!!

Re: UCI 2013!
I just posted this in the other thread, too...
Sorry for asking a seemingly basic question, but I'd like some clarification.
What are the ramifications of submitting the SIR? I don't believe there's a deposit... right?
I'm just wondering if and how submitting the SIR is binding in any way.

It's an intent to enroll - you haven't enrolled yet. And no, nothing says it's binding, but I believe it's in extremely poor taste to say similar things to multiple schools at the same time.ViP wrote:I just posted this in the other thread, too...

I believe most people pick one school to SIR to, but wouldn't be stuck with it if they were get in somewhere else off the waitlist.

Well sure... I totally understand the ethical side of the argument. I just wanted to know if it was binding in any way, since there's no deposit. Thanks for the clarification!lobstar wrote:It's an intent to enroll - you haven't enrolled yet. Re: UCI 2013!
Nasreen, Director of Financial Aid, gave my group a tour of the law school. Someone asked this question and she said No need based grants will be given by UCI this year. It'll all be loans.Veritas wrote:Is UCI going to be offering need based grants?
She also said they are not neogtiating merit aid offers to students. Does anyone have any experiences on the contrary? I recall reading someone "poshh.. (username)" saying he/she was international and got a full scholarship. Anyone else?

Re: UCI 2013!
I think the international student was in a very unusual situation - because they are an international student they are unable to take out student loans like the rest of us can (I think they would need a US citizen or permanent resident as a co-signer). I think that case is a rare exception as even with the scholarship they still are struggling with how to fund living expenses. So I suppose in rare cases an exception might be made.mbv wrote: Nasreen, Director of Financial Aid, gave my group a tour of the law school.
