Davis is awesome, but not for everyone. Make sure you visit before you commit, but I fell in love with it.jahallc wrote:So excited about UCD! I'm still riding the rush from being recently admitted haha.
On a more practical note, what is the living situation like in Davis? About how much does the typical apartment cost? Any comments about the town of Davis itself would be great.

I did, I grew up in San Diegojahallc wrote:Come to UCD, Veritas! Did you grow up in California?
P.S. I'm paying my seat deposit in the next week or two. It's making me really excited.

Bienvenidos, pootie!pootie wrote:I'm 99% sure I will be an Aggie next year! I was (finally) accepted this week! I grew up near Davis and love the town. Hello future classmates!
The tab for UCs is steep and getting steeper, there's no getting around that and it really sucks. With luck, you'll kill it 1L year and they'll throw you some please-don't-transfer money. In any event, the price is comparable to Hastings and UCI tuition-wise, but the COL in Davis is an awful lot lower than San Francisco or Orange County.Veritas wrote:damn, Davis is expensive.
you're right, the COL definitely helps, but unless they throw some cash comparable to UCI's half, it will be hard to seriously consider them. I know they are good with need based grants, so I'm going to wait to see what's in that for me.SoftBoiledLife wrote:The tab for UCs is steep and getting steeper, there's no getting around that and it really sucks. Right now, there just isn't a lot of money to throw at people. While it's always worth asking, the odds aren't good IMHO. I would, however, be a bit cautious about going to UCI over UCD/H, just because it's still a relative unknown (I know this has been talked to death on TLS, that's just my opinion) with employers, USNews, etc.Veritas wrote:you're right, the COL definitely helps, but unless they throw some cash comparable to UCI's half, it will be hard to seriously consider them. Is it worth asking for scholly reconsideration? I feel like the UCs aren't the most negotiation friendly schools.
Ya, I'm caught up on people's opinions. I'm going to visit first and get a better feel for the experience. I have confidence in the professors/administrators putting their professional reputations on the line to establish this school.SoftBoiledLife wrote:Right now, there just isn't a lot of money to throw at people.
