This is correct. Basically you have to remain in the top half. Current 1L if you have any questions.carman1880 wrote:I spoke with a current 3L the other day. He told me that 3.0 was around top 50%.lawlawlawlaw wrote:anyone know what percentile 3.0 is, for scholarship?

I'd like to know that too. I'm going to call the office tomorrow to see what our options are...is it too optimistic to turn a LOCI in ASAP so that I can attend their ASD? Haha. But I really would like to attend this school, so the agony of more waiting will continue.kgb49 wrote:got a waitlist today, anyone know how likely it is to be admitted from waitlist?
Someone on LSN was accepted last year on the WL by end of April, I believe.

Re: Michigan State Law Class of 2013
I spoke with Admissions earlier today, and this is what they told me.
-- They'll start reviewing and accepting waitlisted candidates in March. However, most will hear in April (around 50). Then, it goes month by month. She told me it is possible to be accepted the day before school starts.
-- In the past, they have admitted around <125 waitlisted candidates.
-- They'll have more dates for accepted students (after the first ASD?) to come and visit the campus.
Hope this helps with anyone!

Could anybody tell me how well MSU does in Chicago.
Obviously it's going to do better in Mich than out, but if anybody knows some success stories or horror stories about trying to venture out of state with an MSU degree it would be much appreciated.

3L here, I'll help answer questions. I can accurately answer IP related questions as well (which is saying something on this forum from what I have seen).
Bad news: The school had 35% more applications this year since last year. The number of applications nationally actually was flat or slightly negative. The year before applications were up 25%. So, it is a significantly harder to get in than it was before (I would not have even gotten on the waitlist as a non-URM).
After Michigan, the next place grads go is Chicago, last year 40+ students took the Illinois bar, and they had a 100% pass rate.
Good luck, and don't stress, around this time as a 0L, I was way more stressed out than necessary.

How's the market looking for MSU grads these days?

Re: Michigan State Law Class of 2013
Could anyone tell me (hopefully current student) what the grading curve is for 1Ls? Or what the scholarship retention rate is for the first year?
Also I am curious if anyone knows of any recent MSU law grads obtaining jobs in the south, specifically North Carolina..

Re: Michigan State Law Class of 2013
The 1L curve is a 3.0 now (it seems to have been going up .1 every two years). Retaining a scholarship requires a 3.0. So you have to be a below average student to lose it in 1L, and a very below average student to lose it after 2L. I don't recommend working at all anytime during 1L as a scholarship student. Getting an in-school merit scholarship requires a 3.6 after 1L is over.
The legal job market nationally last year was completely in the gutter, it may very well have been a 50-year low. Michigan's general economy particularly was in the gutter, it has been in a recession since 2001 and it got even worse in 2008-2009 (I would even say Michigan is in a localized Great Depression). That said, MSU had a bar pass rate of 96% in Michigan, and 100% in Illinois (which is its second largest state), so its employment numbers were actually better than previous years.
North Carolina is not a market a lot of students from MSU end up in. From what I have seen, pretty much only those who already have ties to the area (they lived there before), end up practicing in that area of the country.

3.9/158
Applied early January but that was with my February LSAT score that just came through, so I'm hoping for an acceptance and possibly some $$$$ sometime this month.
Looking to do a joint degree with the School of Labor and Industrial Relations. Accepted in January to that program.
