I was talking to a classmate the other day who has already accepted her summer PI job and we were speculating that things seem to be moving much, much faster this year in PI land (the conventional wisdom is that PI doesn't hire until spring). I've personally got two offers that I'm trying to decide between and I was sort of wondering if other people were having the same experience or were seeing similar patterns at their schools?

I don't think 1L's are allowed to interview for job offers yet, don't they have to wait till december due to NALP guidelines. So I would guess 2L

Yeah, I think Dec 1 is just for NALP orgs, and I've heard that some PI places have deadlines either before that date or later, and I'm getting nervous, because I wasn't planning on applying to most places until winter break.

Thanks for the correction on the NALP guidelines. That is good to know as I will be a 1L next year and I am interest in PI jobs, so it is good to be aware of them having earlier dates.

Dec 1 is just for NALP. Some There really aren't many PI orgs that hire 1L's much earlier than that, however, because that would mean hiring students months before they even finish their first classes. There are a LOT of organizations with deadlines between Dec 15th and Jan 31st, however.

Sorry, should have clarified. I'm a 2L, as is the friend I mentioned. I anticipate heavy competition for the 1Ls to get jobs, especially if we 2Ls are scooping them up already. There are many like me who always intended to go PI and didn't do OCI at all, but there are going to be a lot of others who wouldn't usually spend their second summer in the PI world.
