Are you going to take the position? Why or why not?

That's a pretty good starting salary for family law, right?
Does this qualify as a public interest job? Will you qualify for loan forgiveness eventually?

I am going to take it, for the following reasons:
1. I graduated below median from a mediocre school and in this economy, beggars cannot be choosers
2. My boss is literally the best family lawyer in this area, so it's a great learning opportunity
3. I really do not want to actively look for jobs right now

i really dont know what a good starting salary for family lawyers in this area is. but, with all the horror stories of firms offering 25-35k I feel pretty decent about it. It does not qualify as a public interest job. the firm specializes in high dollar, high conflict cases/prolonged custody battles and I will not be eligible for loan assistance. I am still on the lookout for other opportunities, specifically an ADA job in the area, which would help me knock out my loans. for now though, it looks like I'll just have to be content with handing over about half my paycheck to the student loan goons.

TITCR. It's awesome to see people finding jobs, so I echo the sentiment.
(also, UGA is a mediocre school? I was under the impression that it was well regarded in the South.)

Congrats Op. Now get in the mindset that you are being employed as a lawyer and whether you are earning biglaw bucks or 25k, it is expected that you will work your ass off. Learn as much as you can and utilize this opportunity to the fullests

I would say that UGA is well-regarded in Georgia.

ha! I know who you're talking about and no, if I were working for that guy (who many believe is the best litigator in north carolina), I'm sure I would be making much more. I think he charges $1k an hour.

One of my bosses called him to retain him so his wife couldn't. Apparently the only thing he said was, "ten-thousand dollars," knowing full-well that he'd never even turn on his computer for the case. That's nuts.

What are the hours like? Did you intend on finding work in North Carolina or did the opportunity just present itself and you took it? I read in the JD underground thread you said you felt like you won the lottery, so can you shed some insight on the other kinds of jobs people are taking who were median at your school, or are they just jobless?
