Top Law Schools

LA has better weather and Gibson has better quality-of-life ratings on Vault, Kirkland ranks pretty well in many practice areas (I'm largely undecided on specialty.) I'm from California, but that's not a huge concern to me, and I'm familiar with Chicago as I went there for undergrad. What do you guys think??

I'm sure you know more than I (current 1L) but it seems like both are solid firms, neither sufficiently better to trump personal preferences

I'm top 2% at a T15-20, Secondary journal, and came right from undergrad.

I was hoping to get some feedback on whether I might get more substantive work in Chicago since it's a bigger legal market, or whether I should just pick the location I prefer (which is probably LA- the cold sucks). I've also heard Kirkland no-offered some SAs?

Kirkland has already offered in Chicago? Didn't they do the bulk of their interviews this week?

about that... I don't actually HAVE a Kirkland offer. I interviewed with them last week and thought it went well, but mainly I'm just trying to figure out what I want right now so that I can get back to firms as soon as possible when I hear back, and especially b/c i have been sitting on my Gibson LA offer for more than a week when they are one of my top choices.

From what I've read, it seems that GDC is far healthier than KE. If it were me, I'd choose GDC.

I don't see the issue here. You like LA better. You like Gibson better. Gibson has been weathering this economy better. Your only concern seems to be that LA is a legal backwater. You might want to research that point a little more. Once you do, your choice should be pretty clear.

plus, you don't actually have an offer from kirkland. where's the decision?

Hopefully, for your sake, Kirkland or Gibson doesn't read TLS.

From anecdotal evidence GDC seems to be in far better financial shape than Kirkland. Go with GDC unless you have a really strong locational preference.
