Attractive females and SA hiring

I'm being curious here, but is there any credence to the notion that physically attractive females that have unremarkable credentials from a lower T1, T2, T3, T4 school get hired in biglaw because of their looks?

If men or lesbians are doing the hiring, then probably. I'm pretty sure it's like that in every profession and good looking people generally have it easier in life, e.g. Jon Hamm in 30 Rock.

Um maybe. All I can say, is I've been on several firm pages where there were a lot of attractive females, disproportionately so it seemed. I think most of them went to good schools or strong regional T2s. I don' tknow if they passed up more qualified candidates, who knows? Basically, this post is kinda ridiculous. I don't think the sexiest females from Cooley has a shot at Biglaw or any T4.

Beware of getting hired by someone who finds you attractive. It might seem like a blessing, but it seriously is not.

I'm not making any claims about my own beauty or lack thereof, but this is something to consider. I don't know whether this phenomenon is present in legal hiring.

Even if it's not consciously done, people generally hold better looking people in higher regard and tend to gravitate to them.

And if some woman doing the hiring finds me attractive, well....I'm not going to fight it.

It's probably the same thing, maybe to a lesser degree, for tall people. All things being equal, I think generally the 6'2" dude is going to win out over the 5'4" guy.

Ridiculous? I posed an honest question I was curious about. Cooley? Seriously, I post here, I'm not stretching it that far about hypotheticals.

curses...I am only 5'2. Hope that rule doesn't apply to women.
That's pretty close to average, and if you're hot, then it's all good.

Haha, you say that, but it might not lead anywhere good. My (female) friends and I have been subjected to plenty of creepy male behavior in the workplace, though most of it didn't rise to the level of harassment. It was just, well, creepy. Older and wiser (I'm 24, lol), I definitely would not want to get in any door that was opened due to my appearance. It's just a bad idea.

You might get hired over someone more qualified due to your physical attractiveness, but your boss might be looking for more than a summer associate or associate, and unless you're down for that, you might get fired as quickly as you were hired.

Except for how if your boss actually propositions you, you can sue him to no end.

Yes, in theory. Unfortunately it doesn't always work out that way. (I was not propositioned, but I did leave a job because of a creepy boss.)

Plenty of legitimate reasons for hiring attractive people. If you can charm me (a 50 year old balding man with a 48 inch waistline) in an interview, you can probably do the same with a client. I know you didn't have to work as hard as the 5'1 guy who looks like Urkle to charm me, but hey, results are results. Ugly stranger smiles at me on the subway, it's creepy. Beautiful stranger does the same, and I smile back. Maybe I'm just shallow, but so are clients. And it usually has nothing to do with sex. Although, I think you want to shoot for "comfortably attractive", not "victoria secret model" or "retired porn star" .

Firms also hire better dressers over poorly dressed people. Appearances are a big part of the profession, regardless of whether it's something you can control.

I worked for a big law firm, and there were 2-3 girls that looked like they could be models but graduated from a t3 school who were working there. I was like wtf.

I see OS is adding some more posts to her all time most moronic. You better be prepared to take what you can get ITE, and I doubt you are subtle enough to even know whether you are being hired for your looks or not.

Tagging this thread so I can watch the carnage when Dresden and Tea get a hold of this post.

Especially if she is a single Partner, can you say sugar momma. With one fail swoop she can knock out your entire student debt
