Sent my resume, and employer asked for my pic. WTF?

This is REALLY WIERD.

I sent my resume out to an employer. The employer then sent an email back to me asking for a picture. Isn't that kind of creepy?

Has this happened to anyone else? I mean I sent the pic, and then he invited me for an interview.

I'm thinking this is really strange, and I'll just skip the interview.

Also, it gets even wierder (this is a legal assistant sort of job)... the lawyer is a top lawyer in his respective field in DC. But honestly.... i don't want to work with someone that has a wierd hiring practice.

Flame? Why be anonymous if you don't even drop the name of the firm? Also, I'm pretty sure that's illegal... requesting a picture during the hiring process.

I think you could take it to mean he's "creepy", which is kind of jumping the gun. Or he wants someone who looks professional, and I don't just mean clothing.

Well I mean at least he didn't see your pic and then decline an interview.

So, you only began to think it was weird AFTER you sent the pic and got the interview?

It's really illegal to hire based on physical appearances? I haven't taken employment law but this must be wrong.

Anyway, I don't think it is incredibly weird. Physical appearance sometimes matters, particularly when you would be his face to the outside world. Why bring you in if your physical appearance would rule you out?

That said, if you get creeper vibes during your interview, run, don't walk away.

Obviously not that desperate... If you're walking away from the interview because he asked for your picture.

I imagine this guy is flooded with resumes given the economy, so given the option why not weed out the fuglies? Especially if this is a position that may have client contact.
It's not the same thing. Someone comes in for an interview and you don't hire them because they're unattractive is not a big deal bc they can't prove that's why you didn't hire them, there could be thousands of reasons for that.

You requesting a picture of someone who has applied (obviously interested, obviously looked over their resume) and then not hiring can be seen as discriminatory. I work in the Career Services office at my school and some retarded girl had a picture of herself in the upper right hand corner of her resume bc it "added a personal touch" and I remember the head of the office saying that employers wouldn't even look at the application bc it could be seen as discriminatory/showing preferences no mattter what they did (hire her or not).

You know the worst part is, when he asked for my pic he sent me an email saying he updated the job posting with required materials as a picture. I checked this morning and that requirement was gone.
