they must not have good hairstylists in Virginia--he should have gone to school in NYC

If one would like to work in PA government.. One should realize that PA is a commonwealth and not a state.. Step two for this young grad might be a new hair cut. Just saying.

It seems clear that the guy wants to work in PA, and that's the best job he could find in PA.
He went to a "regional school" (albeit a good one) in VA.
Perhaps his job search would have gone better if he looked for work in VA.
Or if he'd gone to Temple, Pitt, Villanova or Penn State, and THEN looked for work in PA.
Alot of the "horror stories" seem to involve people who ignored the whole "go to school where you want to practice" thing (like the poster who went to a t3 school in Vermont and than complained when he couldn't get a good legal job in NYC).

Yes, the economy sucks. Yes, getting a job is not easy right now.
But the most important thing is BE REALISTIC. Don't go to Florida State and expect to have an easy time landing a job with a firm in Chicago. Don't go to Kent and expect to take the LA market by storm.

Seems to me like this guy is a classic, "I don't know what to do, I guess I'll go to law school" type.

Maybe he should have focused his efforts towards finding employment, and held off on "The Obama Revolution". Though I'm sure the public is really interested in reading a book about Obama from a low level campaign staffer.

true, there is no need for this to be anonymous.

I'm sure one could find similar articles for any profession. There are always cases of individuals that go into something half-assed and without reason. I would be willing to bet that this goofy guy is in this predicament for something much more than the mere fact he went to law school and "wants" to be an attorney. To excel in a field you must go and get it, the present state of the economy is only going to magnify this situation. I'm sure that this guy is intelligent, but I would be willing to bet that he possesses a certain laziness that has landed him in this article rather than in a firm.

Doc review = virtually non-existent in many jurisdictions.. If you are a biglaw bleeding to death.. Do you A) outsource the doc review and thus earn very little off of the project; or B) give that work to your 1-3 year associates and have them bill for it (instead of having them sit around and do nothing) and pass that cost along to your client?

what other jobs do they have besides doc review? what do paralegals do?
