Waiting a year before school--legal employment for now?

So I decided to wait a year to start school. I may have a good job opportunity for this year, but if it falls through, what should I do? I've sent a cover letter and resume to several large firms, inquiring about legal internships or assistant positions....I even responded to a couple items on Craigslist...Contacted a couple DC think tanks....just looking for any sort of work that is somewhat relevant and has networking potential....What's the best way to go about getting these positions?

Why would you want an internship? Networking is nice and all, but the only thing worse than giving up 3 years of income for law school is giving up 4 years of income.

No, I could go to NYC, DC, or Austin....And elsewhere with a bit more hassle....I'm certainly not opposed to a non-internship position, but with me going to school in a year and the economy in its current condition, I'm not sure how likely that is....
