also got asked to fly in for a screen interview for Proskauer Rose. For what it's worth.

As for the other interviews (ended yesterday) still haven't heard a SINGLE THING
Hope it's not for the NY office, lol.

Oh, undoubtedly. It's just that the NY office got the worst of it by far.

The PH callback was for Chicago. PH for NYC is still up in the air. The Proskauer Rose screening is for NYC

I wouldn't be all that concerned about interviewing at Paul Hastings. Clearly, they overhired by a lot for this past summer. Chances are, they will be much more conservative in hiring for next summer. Firms don't "like" having to give only 70% offers - they lose money. Granted, in the grand scheme of things, it isn't a ton of money, but its still money. They'd rather hire only 50 summers in the first place than hire 75 and only keep 50. So chances are now that they see how the economy is (unlike last summer, when hiring took place before the real collapse in October/November), they will hire more closely to their needs, and try to keep offers at or above 95%.

So, would you say overall it is a good/poisitive thing to get a callback from paul Hastings?

I assumed that, given all the crap they hav egone through, they wouldn't give a callback unless they REALLLLY were certain they would extend a 2010 SA offer ( unless the law student fucked it up, of course)

is this off course to think this way?

I don't know. I have a friend who worked for them this summer in Atlanta, and PH gave 50% offer rates there. I turned down a CB from them b/c their offer rates scare the s**t out of me, and I'd rather work for a small firm than them.

yeah i'd stay away from PH (if you have options, of course). if you plan to clerk though, i suppose you could find a new firm for after clerking?

btw so far my callbacks have been from the more selective places and my two dings were from places that are quite a bit less selective. what gives?

but it's not like law schools where everyone wants to go to the best one (barring $$$ which doesn't come into play here and barring location which doesn't come into play when you interview only in NYC). grrr

What are your ties to the area? Smaller/less selective firms seem to focus more on regional ties than the larger firms do. That might be a factor.

We've only had one week of OCI; I'll update as interviews go on.
Ugh, now 12 interviews.... and still only 3 callbacks. One rejection. No word from the others.
I'm revising my "large market"--it's either DC or Chicago. NY firms are apparently calling back much more quickly than anywhere else.

Just wondering, for those who already received rejections from OCI employers, was it by phone or in the mail? I would think the mail but I have read a couple of firms websites where it says they will call and let you know whether you get a callback

School - Tier 2 (b/w 51-75)
Top 10%, Moot Court
# of interviews - 6 (so far)
# of callbacks - 1 (haven't heard from 4, 1 ding)
Target markets - regional

Three firms I dropped for backed out after taking resumes. 2 of the 3 I found out about the day before they were supposed to come on campus. Not cool.

Me again!

Had my 6 regional interviews in LA Mon/Tues and got a callback today. Hopefully this is a good sign and more are on the way :)
Got a ding today... nice of them to let me know via email rather quickly I suppose...

I have received 3 email dings (two from recruiting, and one that was surprisingly nice from the interviewer), and one letter. It seems people are generally getting both snail and emails. I haven't heard of anyone getting a rejection call.

T10, Top quarter of the class

Total interviews - 20
Interviews so far - 18
Callbacks so far - 2

I haven't received any rejections yet, but I'm a bit bummed about going 2/18 so far.

Just finished OCI at CCN. Had 27 interviews, 7 of which were for a secondary market. Roughly top 10% + not great at interviews.

NY: 3 dings, 8 callbacks.
Secondary: 1 ding, 0 callbacks.

Same school rank, roughly same class rank (i'm guessing i'm somewhere between top 20-25%). So far, 0/12. No rejections but no callbacks. 4 more tomorrow. Targeting a mix of NYC and CA. I know it's early (we started OCI on Monday) but i'm a little freaked out not to have heard from ANYWHERE! I think of myself as a fairly strong interviewer! dammit!...haha

Ok, wow, we are very neurotic. Many of these offices that come to interview have to discuss the interviews, not to mention, if you interview for other offices with the same firm, it takes time for word to get back.

I was also told that i would hear something within a week for most firms, because many of the firms were visiting different schools on different days, and weren't going to be too quick to make decisions until the week was through, soooo, i guess my point is, let's try to think positively.

Thanks for the post, and please let us know how this progresses. Specifically, I am interested in how the Secondary market responses pan out for you. I go to a "regional TT", and I can say that I have had about 8-12 interviews for regional branches of international firms, regional firms, state firms, etc. I will respond how call backs turn out, if they turn out at all. My theory, though will soon be proven/disproven, is that regional/state schools will dominate their regions/states, even in the face of elite schools, given the fact that mid/larger sized firms were not as devastated by the downturn as the big name NYC firms. That being said, god save all 2Ls, 1Ls and 0Ls, the lowly classes of 2011, 12, 13...and perhaps beyond, destined to be competing against hundreds or thousands for a handful of spots.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
