Re: OCI/callbacks/etc Men's Clothing Mega-thread
I'd never worn a suit (at all) to any interview in my life and it's never been a problem. And now many of you say that for an interview (even in California) only two colors are acceptable?
So, my request for advice: do I really need a third suit? Or, alternatively, which of these two is most presentable?

Re: OCI/callbacks/etc Men's Clothing Mega-thread
I would not buy a new suit just for interviews, provided that the ones you have fit you. I would be wary of wearing the black one, but I doubt it'll make the difference between getting a job and not, which is what you should be concerned about. If you do get a job where you need to wear a suit every day (e.g. judicial internship, Cravath...) I would definitely buy another suit. Since you say yours are cheapish, make it a nicer one.yuzu wrote:I have two (cheapish) suits: a medium gray and a black. According to the "conventional wisdom" of this thread, I need to buy a third in charcoal or navy. Seriously?

I think you're mischaracterizing the conventional wisdom in this thread. The conventional wisdom pertains to the best practices when purchasing interview attire. If you already own the item, the calculus is obviously very different. Regarding your particular situation, you do not need another suit. What you wear to the interviews plays a very minor role in your overall evaluation. You can wear either suit and be fine. If you are going to buy another suit for interviewing, however, buy a navy suit.yuzu wrote:I have two (cheapish) suits: a medium gray and a black. Yeah go with the cap toes. They're preferable to those square toes in all circumstances.traehekat wrote:for interviewing? no way. the meltons are you best bet, everyone needs to own a pair of those so might as well get em now.joncrooshal wrote:One other pair of shoes:

Or provide the link for the suggestions by the bearded erudite? I could have sworn I've seen it somewhere on TLS.

Short answer: white is your safest bet for a shirt. Pale blue, lavender and pink are advanced options that you can look into at a later date. Plain white too! No stripes or designs. Your tie should be striped or pindot design with a simple design/ colors. No crap like cartoons, artwork or paisley designs. Here's a couple examples of ties that I would wear with that suit:Blessedassurance wrote:Didn't read through all the thread but can someone offer suggestions on what color of shirt and tie to wear with a charcoal striped suit?

Long answer: Pufer's megapost is on page 6 of this thread, and is basically spot-on for interviewing purposes: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... &start=125

Re: OCI/callbacks/etc Men's Clothing Mega-thread
I need to buy a new pair of everyday shoes. I know this is more for interview shoes, but it is also a clothing mega thread. I live in OK right now, and everyone wears cowboy boots. Ill be ending up either in DC, Virginia, St Louis, or Nashville, so I was wondering if cowboy boots would be too hick. Also, are they comfortable? I've had sperry's boat shoes for the past 2 years, and those were pretty comfortable

Damn, those are expensive. My advice is to go a half size smaller than what you're used to wearing.

Slip-ons are only appropriate for interviews if said interviews are in a jail.Anonymous User wrote:Would a shoe like this be a problem:

On the plus side, they're super comfortable and, if the leather is properly cared for, will last practically forever. I've been trying to talk myself out of buying a couple more pairs of AEs for months now.traehekat wrote:just bought a pair at nordstrom rack for 220 the other week. brown hinsdale wingtip, which i guess have been discontinued. happy with the purchase, but still expensive even at outlet.turbotong wrote:I bought a pair of the allen edmonds. A black suit with very thin red pinstripes or just a plain black suit?
Kind of looks like this

I actually kind of like the way it looks, but that would in no way be appropriate for an interview. Think conservative.
