Nordstrom Rack. Stick to wool/synthetic wool materials in colors like navy, gray (dark or light), olive, khaki, and brown.
Thanks.
How important is the wool thing? In other words, color aside, is something like this out of the question?

So wool usually looks better, its more formal, usually does not have an unwanted shine, and it feels better on your skin. Buying cheap polyester pants is like putting water bottles for pants. You can get 100% wool pants or something similar for $60-100, so why buy polyester?
What about cotton? Specifically these:

They have shirts for 29.50 atm which is as good as it gets for them. Good deal for people looking to stock up. Check the Male fashion thread for comments on quality.

Looks fine to me although if you're into this kind of "sport coats" you might as well wear a suit jacket you already have. For me a true sport coat is at least lightly patterned and its color is not a traditional suit color (that's what makes it less formal). But you can wear that grey with a contrasting pant and I'm pretty sure it'll look fine.
oh god never wear a suit jacket as a sport coat. Its so obvious. THe differnce isn't just color. ITs fit & constructino.
It's actually entirely dependent on the jacket, so this isn't a steadfast rule at all.
I have a couple orphaned jackets that look totally fine. I have some suit jackets that would look terrible

yeah... i wouldn't go cotton that's that obviously cotton other than fridays and maybe the occasional change-up. wool lasts longer, looks a hell of a lot better, and is more comfortable as long as you've got the right weight for the season. i've seen a few pairs of cotton pants that drape more like a tropical wool - hickey freeman made some a few years ago - but aside from those, i probably wouldn't rely on cotton pants. not to say that you can't or even shouldn't, i guess i just don't see the upside

Does this mean that I should bite the bullet and buy those or that I should buy wool ones? Would be more than happy to take brand recs as well.
Don't buy those.
I know you'll be here during the summer and it'll be hot but just buy breathable wool pants. I think banana republic makes good wool pants for the price (wait for 40% off, usually on Wednesdays). They look more professional and are more appropriate.

The difference in appearance between wool and cotton is marginal and not having to deal w/ dry cleaning is totally worth it.

This is decidedly false unless you're comparing certain types of wools and certain cotton construction. Cotton pants are definitely noticeable.

good call
free shipping and returns if you buy a minimum amount (it's like $50 I think), so I think they're a fine buy to try out.

Most importantly, who the fuck cares if cotton is noticeable? This may just come down to a cultural difference between NY and everywhere else that doesn't make a big deal out of minute things that don't matter. So I guess by marginal difference I mean most people aren't going to notice, let alone care. It's mostly a personal preference. You have to wear wool to be an adult/professional? lol ok.

once again the professional men's style thread completely misses the point between "what should I advise someone to buy?" versus "what is acceptable?"

Not at all man, but I guess if that's the way you want to see it. Like I said, it's either just preference or a cultural thing. At my workplace if anyone brought up wool v. cotton pants, we would just laugh at them.

Does no one else take issue with the latter half of this? You should have your khakis dry cleaned. Yes, you can launder them, but after you've had them a while (and you will have them a while because you're an adult now), the cuffs will fray, the creases will fade in color, and the fit will grow more and more like a vise on both your waste and marriage tackle.
