Ok, thanks, i'll look around some more. I wont buy anything till summer anyways i'm just trying to get a good idea now so I can make sure to save up the cash so I don't have to put it on credit.

Check out the Brooks Brother outlets. The suits are made specifically for there and are not canvased, but they look good and I got two for <$500. Another $100 to have tailored for a perfect fit. Won't last 10 years since not canvased...but whatever for now they were good.

Godspeed, I love your socks. You are correct with dressing in a conservative manner to pull it off though. The office is made for dressing in classic styles, but the socks are where you can put some personality into your outfit.

I would never wear a double breasted suit and I think very few people can pull them off, but that might be a personal thing.

Best 5 brands of dress shoes. Looking for good all around value (reasonable price but good shoes).

Depending on what you're considering a reasonable price, you should probably be looking at one of the following three brands:

Allen Edmonds
Johnston & Murphy
Bostonian

Cole Haan? Got mine for like 130$, which is in line with most Johnston & Murphy shoes.

At $130, you're likely not looking at real J&M stuff (either their non-dress shoe lines, or the lower-line J.Murphy by Johnston & Murphy sold at DSW and the like).

In my opinion, Cole Haans split the difference in quality between Bostonian and Johnston & Murphy, but often cost as much as the lower-to-mid line J&M stuff. Thus, I tend to think that they're moderately overpriced (however, everyone knows this, and there are, accordingly, a lot more Cole Haan sales than you'll find with other shoe makers).

Additionally, I feel that J&M shoes are more comfortable for around the same price, but that's hardly any kind of objective assessment, and many will legitimately disagree. Also, amongst clothes snobs, you also have to contend with the fact that you're wearing dress shoes by Nike, but I'm not sure if that should really matter if you otherwise like the shoes.

Loafers are a classic for office wear, but not for an interview. I like my loafers how I like my women: bareback and with a little bling around their necks

What is the opinion of suits by Zara? They seem like they have the more modern fit that I've been interested in while being relatively inexpensive. I know a guy that has one and he says they're very comfortable

The tailoring/long term quality is suspect. If it fits appropriately it's fine for a little while, but not a long term investment. It's a great plan if you want to go with a fabric you aren't sure about and see if you can pull it off, or if you've put on some weight/lost some weight, but expect to change size soon. I think Banana is a much better way to go because they have a slimmer fit available and it will last better. Hugo Boss also executes this fit beautifully, but obviously is more spendy.

I live in San Francisco, so maybe it isn't fair to say every day to work. Most of the business men here wear suits like 3 days a week.

Good for you, I wish I had a ton of suits. But I (and most people ITT) just don't have the money.

In any case, I think 3-4 suits is adequate, even for a job where you wear one daily. With a good mixture of shirts and ties, I doubt anyone would ever notice.
