If you're working a true SA, the following are basically true:
1) You can afford wool pants/better clothes
2) You can afford dry cleaning
3) You're not working very much
4) There's probably a dry cleaner within walking distance because you live in city

I also dry clean my wool pants like twice a year each.

Oh that was me.sublime wrote:Anonymous User wrote:BR is 40% off right now, FYI.
Weird (accidental?) use of anon dude, but since this is really helpful, I don't care.
And thanks Penn and everybody - I will grab some from BR and see how they are.

You mean you never spill shit on them? You must either be really neat, or have a seriously lacking lunch game.PennBull wrote:I also dry clean my wool pants like twice a year each.

I probably have eight-ten pairs so I have a good rotation. I also tend not to spill shit on them, I guess.

Just went to BR. Of course, all their cotton slacks are on sale and none of their wool ones. Lol.

There are plenty of dark cotton dress pants that look every bit as professional (as far as business casual goes) as wool pants and will be significantly cooler in the summer.
Something like this comes to mind:

I don't know if you got the memo but if you wear non-wool you immediately get placed on non-partner track SA on.

quick survey... What's your preference in terms of dress pant break? is it really just a matter of preference? full break looks bad..

Re: OCI/callbacks/etc Men's Clothing Mega-thread
yeah, it really is just a preference issue, provided that it's executed halfway decently. i've found the full/half/etc. taxonomy pretty unhelpful in working with different tailors. i just tell the tailor where the back of the pant should hit on the heel. the sweet spot varies a little bit with how full the pants are, but i use belts not braces so closeish is good enough.
the half and the quarter are nearly indistinguishable in this picture (doesn't help that they used different kinds of shoes). most "half breaks" would hit noticeably lower on the back than the top of the heel like that one does, about a half inch above the heel.

Looks like BR doesn't carry khaki-colored wool trousers anymore. Anyone have experienced with Nordstrom's?

The BR taupe ones are ok but look seem a lot less versatile for pairing (they're even darker looking in person):

That's not a full break, that's a lazy short person with no tailor. Looks like shit.mvp99 wrote:quick survey... What's your preference in terms of dress pant break? is it really just a matter of preference? full break looks bad..

A suit should have some break. Same for wool pants in general. Chinos, cords, and jeans don't need any.

Agree but for jeans. No break jeans look dad like. I prefer at least a break, and more like two (with slim jeans). Basically, I think stacks are great.Danger Zone wrote:That's not a full break, that's a lazy short person with no tailor. Looks like shit.mvp99 wrote:quick survey... I've heard that the break should be inversely related to the narrowness of the leg opening. ie, slim fitting pants with a narrow leg opening = little or no break; looser fitting pants with a bigger leg opening = more of a break.mvp99 wrote:quick survey... IME this is the best rule. Tapered just looks weird with much break and boot cut or a wider opening floods and looks funky without some break.nevdash wrote:I've heard that the break should be inversely related to the narrowness of the leg opening. ie, slim fitting pants with a narrow leg opening = little or no break; looser fitting pants with a bigger leg opening = more of a break.mvp99 wrote:quick survey... Just bought a few pairs of Bill's Khakis (M3 cut). They're great if your office doesn't require suit and tie.
Also, I got a pair of nice burgundy medallion toe dress shoes. They're boss and I wear them with everything. It's also a lot easier to find nicer burgundy shoes than wade through a trillion pairs of clunky, shitty black shoes.

Re: OCI/callbacks/etc Men's Clothing Mega-thread
About to start a SA at a "formal" firm. I have 3 suits (navy and dark grey) black dress shoes and white dress shirts. I guess it's a good time to start a professional wardrobe so what should I buy? Am I going to need some nice slacks or should I just assume I'm going to be in a suit everyday anyways?
As to dress shirts, are things like this what I need?
Tell me stuff to buy and where to buy it.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
