A couple ppl at my school are hyping J Crew factory. Are these suits at all credited, or are they not worth it? http://factory.jcrew.com/mens-clothing/suiting.jsp
Note: I'm not trying to spend a ton. I just want a price where I can get 3-4 for a good price without having to get JAB quality (i.e. not quality) duds.

Best place to get solid long sleeve collared dress white shirt for OCI?

NO. Don't wear a light gray suit to ANY firm interviews, whether they are screeners or callbacks. Light grey is considered more "casual" and you want to demonstrate to the firm that you know how to play the game. It wouldn't be an auto-ding or anything, but why risk it? I say play it safe with navy suit/white shirt, and just change your tie up. Wear the light grey suit all you want once you've got an offer.nointerests wrote:Verdict on light gray suits? If the firm is business casual, I think this is a completely reasonable callback suit. You'll already be more formally dressed than most people in the office and you're still showing respect to the fact that this is a suit situation. I went with a light blue for one callback and I'm wearing a slightly darker grey for my next one.WhiskeynCoke wrote:NO. Thanks for the help with the navy suit, guys. I'll give it some thought. Maybe I don't look as bad in one as I think I do..!

If you have a charcoal or navy, wear that. Just play the goddamn game.

For OCI:
Dark charcol suit + light blue shirt + navy tie
OR
White shirt + standard blue tie?

light blue shirt + navy tie is a better combo; white shirt + blue tie is completely inoffensive. either is good.

Assuming your OCI is more than 1 day, just do both. I did most combinations of navy/charcoal suits, white/blue shirts, and maroon/blue ties.

I wore the same shirt/tie combo for all of OCI and all of callbacks. I can't imagine anyone noticed. I had just moved to NYC and I could barely dress myself. Branching out wasn't an option.

Solid suggestions. OCI is 3 days plus callbacks.
I think I will go white shirt/blue tie for all screeners and if I am lucky enough to get a callback, I'll pull out the light blue/navy combo since they seem to be ever so slightly less formal (if this isn't true, may just stick to white shirt)

Re: OCI/callbacks/etc Men's Clothing Mega-thread
So I've read all the shoe posts I can find but I'm still scared about messing this up because I only have enough money to buy one pair of shoes (I also know nothing beyond what I've read on TLS about dressing formally). The best shoes at my local Nordstrom Rack (which all happened to be AEs) were:
AE Delray
AE LaSalle
AE Carlyle
They're cheap enough at the Rack that I don't care about price differences. I just want a shoe that a) will last a while and b) I can wear in a variety of formalities (biz casual firm, formal firm, court). If I'm way off base let me know and I can probably get some Park Aves in time for my interviews. Thanks guys.

get the carlyle. absolutely absolutely get the carlyle. i would've gotten one instead of my black park avenues if they made the carlyle when i bought them. fantastic shoe; arguably more formal than the PA because still a balmoral yet doesn't have the captoe decoration (plus it eliminates the one flaw of the PA, which is the placement of the cap toe)

Thanks for this, I don't know what balmoral means so you seem more than qualified to answer. Just to make sure (I know I'm being neurotic): Carlyle isn't too shiny? And it won't be too formal for a business casual interview?sprezz wrote:get the carlyle. absolutely absolutely get the carlyle. i would've gotten one instead of my black park avenues if they made the carlyle when i bought them. fantastic shoe; arguably more formal than the PA because still a balmoral yet doesn't have the captoe decoration (plus it eliminates the one flaw of the PA, which is the placement of the cap toe)

Carlyle looks sexy.
All shoes are OK for all purposes listed.

And I mean for a business casual interview aren't you wearing a suit? Carlyle works well with that just fine. If you're not wearing a suit they're a touch too formal but it doesn't matter really.

It's Quinn so no suit, probably just collared shirt and slacks. Carlyle seems to be the clear winner so I think I'll deal with being slightly too formal.PennBull wrote:Allen Edmonds pictures make the shoes look shinier than they are in real lifeYukos wrote:Thanks for this, I don't know what balmoral means so you seem more than qualified to answer. That was my plan but apparently that's going a little too far for an interview, even for them.PennBull wrote:Oh Quinn
