This isn't the exact one I have but it is Jos A Bank and has this kind of pattern. I keep hearing nothing but absolute solid for an interview, but I think the pattern on this is pretty understated. That being said I'm not opposed to getting a new suit since I have some money from the summer.

Also, I really need new shoes and was thinking about these:

Just wanted to be 100% sure...having a pattern like the one on the suit in the link is ok? I'd just heard so many times it was terrible, just want to be sure.

I'm planning on wearing a navy suit with a white shirt and red tie to OCI. I've got a red tie but I'm not happy with it and looking to buy another. Should I go for a darker red (burgundy) or a "brighter" red?

I personally never wear button-down collars, with or without a jacket. Always wear your collar stays though. Keep your shirts good shape and you'll never again need button-down collars in your wardrobe.

(And remember to remove your collar stays before laundering your shirts, especially if you iron them or use a service to press them. They'll ruin the collar otherwise. You see this less with the prevalence of non-iron shirts but 10-12 years ago you would often see shirts that people had left their collar stays in when they sent them to the cleaners).

It has nothing to do with needing or not needing BD collars. It's just a personal preference. I own and wear both tieless and probably prefer BDs when tieless. No BDs with a suit though.

I agree that it is a personal preference. I disagree about needing/not needing. Everyone needs non-BD. Only those who have a preference for BD without a tie need BD. It's a question of economy of your wardrobe.

I like them. But are plain-toe balmorals too formal for normal business attire? I guess that wouldn't really make sense. They are damn expensive though. If I were gonna spend that money, I'd get an Alden cap-toe balmoral, maybe cordovan. That's more a preference though.

If you already own them though, you're good.

a plain toe bal in black calf is the quintessential "interview shoe" if we define interview attire to be the most formal option still acceptable for business attire. would be interested in comparing that bad boy to kent wang's offering from the last perspective, as kent's last is more elegant than the alden comps i've seen. i can't afford these so i won't bother looking too hard at a comparison haha

Agreed, the photos on the website are not ideal. They look way better IRL. Easily the best (and probably only viable) $15 tie you can get.

Rocking a charcoal suit at OCI. Is this tie acceptable? I'm also getting the Red, pin-dotted tie that someone linked above. With so many interviews, I thought I'd have a back-up just in case (spill, dirt, etc.)

I like that navy one. Either way, I think you'll be fine. The blue in the first one may be a little bold for an interview, but it's tough to tell from the pictures online.
