SEO didn’t ask us last year to stop tracking or talking about the program openly on TLS. In fact, in an email, they sent alumni, they even seemed to encourage us promoting the program on here on what they call a “semi-anonymous” message board. For the most part, we all really loved the program and I guess you can see on here that alumni get defensive about it.

You guys shouldn’t be afraid to talk openly about it—voicing your fears, concerns, and questions. You’re not going to get auto-rejected because they figure out who you are--simply for posting on TLS, lol.

But as a caveat-- and this doesn’t apply to anyone in particular here-- you shouldn’t talk trash and gossip about your firm, or job, in general in a public place (from online message boards to subways to cabs). If you said critical things about the firm you were working for (SEO, 1L, 2L SA, or full time associate) on TLS, and recruiters and partners figured out who you are, you bet your ass they’d be pissed about it. SEO is no different.

Also, if you act like an asshat on TLS and your character on here is super sketchy, your reputation bleeds over into SEO, so you can understand why they’d be hesitant to admit someone with poor judgment and who might embarrass the program in the future.

But it sounds like for the most part, you guys seem to be pretty level-headed about talking about the program (and I’m going to trust that your post history isn’t shit). So you should feel free to not post anonymous out of fear they’ll hold it against you.

I will say that in terms of offering constructive feedback to SEO, I’m not sure what you’re going to get out of doing it here. You should have those conversations with Luisa and Tamesha openly, instead of hiding behind an anonymous name. They’ll listen and decide if what you’re saying is feasible/possible or whether they’ll ignore your advice, like any good manager would do.

Venting can be fine, but understand that sometimes it can be construed as being ungrateful or bossy—which seems to piss off alumni.

In terms of fear from last year, I believed the fiasco last year centered around the fact that the alum misunderstood his conversation with his interviewer and posted info on here that wasn’t exactly accurate (orwasn’t in line with what SEO wanted). I think where they have a problem is people perpetuating misinformation and gossip about the program.

Be open and civil about the conversation and your feelings, but use good judgment about what kinds of things you should post here and what things are better left under "anonymous" or said to SEO to their face.

I'd imagined they'd have the class filled by now, but per their communication with us, I have no reason to believe that is the case.
Thanks for the reassurance. I have a similar timeline to yours and haven't heard from them since my initial interview in late January.

I know in years past there was a mix follow-up/no follow-up acceptances, but this year it seems like they're relying pretty heavily on the follow-up interview - thoughts??
I interviewed this past week, and they said they wouldn't be offering new follow-ups, though I think that only applies to those interviewed this week.

They've been swamped logistically with the whole Dewey & LeBoeuf fiasco, and they're really doing their best to finalize decisions and get them to us in the next few days.

Seeing an alum like Guchster makes me feel like the drawn out screening process is 10000% worth it. If everyone's like this I think a lot of my growth will come from interacting with other people, not just working in the firm.

G, since my question got buried in the anon battle, could you maybe comment or link me back to that page where someone moves up in the T-14 after being accepted? I'm currently in a dilemma like this and weighing out a lot of factors.

Edit: Also someone misquoted me up there. I spent nearly five minutes trying to figure out where I wrote that (and when I started writing so differently) until I caught that lol.

This anonymous-on-anonymous violence has got to stop... . This website amuses me to no end.

On another note, has anyone received an outright rejection from SEO. My file is complete, but I haven't gotten any notification whatsoever as to my status. I've contacted them but no one has responded. I'm ok being rejected because I have at least one other job lined up, but do they actually "reject" anyone or do they leave you wondering?

Just FYI, I applied in Nov or Dec (Its been so long I don't remember when exactly). My application status has been complete since I applied. I've check the application and haven't been rejected. I haven't gotten an interview, phone call, email, or anything.

Dunno [sigh] had all my stuff in by end of February, but just sent my deposit in two weeks ago. I called to confirm they'd received it and was told that someone would likely contact me for a follow up interview later that week, but then silence - not sure what to make of it. I'm hoping it means that they're just swamped, but the fact that so many people were asked to follow up interview before depositing at all makes me really nervous...

Yeah, they said they would contact you for a follow-up? I was under the impression that most? or at least some people last year got in without a follow-up.

I said this before, but I think that we all need to be patient and wait until the end of this week. Friday marks the 2 week count down until orientation, so it's my guess that they will wrap up decisions by then. I don't think we should give up hope just yet.

(deposited to T6 and had an interview and two follow-ups. I was also told a decision would be made within a week when I had my last follow up last week).

:) the way I think of it is we are all in a great position. We're going to some of the best law schools on the country, we can't forget that! If we get SEO...awesome. If we don't, then we'll just have the summer to relax. Sounds like a win-win to me.
